You might have a bad distributor, but inspect E.G.R.and crank signal, is this a 2.5? very common for this eng. size distributor goes bad and if installed non factory one will ended up having same problem

About five weeks ago, after driving for 1/2 mile, my car cut out with no warninh ... 26-08-11, 12:04 #1 ... I bought cheap $100 fuel pump instead of 200 and have trouble with gauge cutting in and out all the time. Also can't go below 1/4 tank or it will lose prime because check valve doesn't work. Check wires are on good and the numbering. Did similar work to mine. Mine was cutting in and out while driving. Loss power and then gained power back and rpm tach would go nuts. It was the crank sensor.
Check alternator voltage at back of alternator ( big wire ), if you have no less then 13.5 volt's, alternator is ok, check for blown alternator fuse or break at wire from back of alternator to starter then to battery, could be a bad fuse link at starter.
easiest check is to put a voltmeter on the battery posts. Should be 14 volts or over with engine running. If not alternator may have 1 or more bad diodes.
Also, clean all the battery connections, incluidng small wires on poitive post, if present.
To what degree do you lose power and in what way? Do you loose over-drive or does it loose power and speed (on the streets, highway, or at any speed). From your discription it does sound like either a fuel flow/pressure issue or a clogged cat.
