My 94 Jimmy had similar problems, until the dirty EGR valve was replaced. We tried a million things, first. But the improvement with the new EGR valve has HUGE.

On mine I usually pulled the old EGR and removed the carbon; it's a very common thing on the 4.3L V6 with TBI- chunks of carbon from a design flaw are the cause, but usually the EGR can be cleaned without completely replacing it...

Sounds like the EGR valve is not working because of excess carbon build up.

95 gmc jimmy rough idle fuel in exhaust drives

Purchase new egr valve gasket with screen on it. The motor as it get older produces more carbon it then begins to break off and when the valve opens it get caught in there. i have cleaned mine several times and finally found the gasket at napa for around 22 bucks. All you need it 10mm wrech and 10mm socket with ext. takes around 10 min to do.

1995 gmc jimmy 4x4 rough idle smell gas from tail pipe

To check EGR valve, plug the vacuum hose to it, and it should not get hot anymore. It if does, it is leaking.
But gas smell is usually bad plug wire or plug.
With good insulation, remove one sparkplug wire at a time, to see if one has no effect. That is the target.
