Unfortunately, this code has nothing to do with the gas cap....
A code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Here are some things you could try to fix it:
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
  • Replace PCM

What does code p0446 mean on a 2001 Buick Centry?

P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction The code P0446 is set when the engine computer recognizes a fault or restriction at the vent control part of the Evaporative emission control system (EVAP). The description of the fault varies between different car manufacturers, but one thing is common, the code P0446 doesn't directly point to a defective part; some testing might be required to pinpoint the faulty component. What can cause the code P0446: - faulty vent control valve - blockage at the vent hose, vent filter or vent control valve - open or short in the vent control valve circuit - bad charcoal canister - EVAP system leak - faulty EVAP system pressure sensor - bad vacuum switching valve (VSV) - stuck open purge valve (solenoid)

DTC P0446 - Evaporative Emmission Control System Vent Control Circuit
Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to battery voltage on the control circuit, P0446 will set. Code also may refer to ECM detecting that EVAP system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test. A code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Possible Solutions
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
  • Replace PCM

DTC P0452 - Evaporative emission control system, pressure sensor low imput
DTC P0453 - Evaporative emission control system, pressure sensor high imput

The PCM monitors the EVAP control system FTP sensor input signal to the PCM. The test fails when the signal average jumps above a minimum allowable calibrated parameter. If both codes are present, it sounds like your fuel tank pressure sensor has failed.

The sensor is on top of the tank and you will have to remove the tank. But your symptoms are pointing to more than just the sensor. You may have wiring problems.

P0446 emision contrl code

code P0446 is for a Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent System Performance. this can be aused by a wiring problem, a engine control module, but in most cases this is caused by a EVAP canister vent solenoid. to correctly check this code out, requires a scan tool and a smoke machine

What does the diagnostic code P0446 for a 2001 isuzu rodeo mean?

Hi, your vent valve has malfuntioned. The vent valve is near the tank, and has a hose to the tank and a solenoid to close it. Check the wiring/connector. If OK, try applying 12 volts directly to the solenoid. If it does not click when voltage is applied, replace the solenoid/valve.

The check engine light stays on or comes back on when doing smog test. It passed everything on the smog test except check engine light. The indicator code is P0446.

Hi:
Your P0446 code is a Evap vent valve code: Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). Check engine light

DESCRIPTION
A restricted or blocked evaporative emission (EVAP) vent path is detected by the control module monitoring the fuel tank pressure (FTP) during normal operation. The control module commands the EVAP vent valve OFF, or open, and the EVAP canister purge valve ON, or open. The fuel tank pressure should remain low as vacuum is drawn on the EVAP system. If the vent path is blocked or restricted, the vacuum level will increase and DTC P0446 will set.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An intermittent Condition could be caused by a damaged EVAP vent housing, a temporary blockage at the EVAP vent valve inlet, or a pinched vent hose. A blockage in the vent system will also cause a poor fuel fill problem.
