My car started to screech right when i started to drive it. I checked the oil....almost nothing. I know I have a leak due to a crappy gasket. I didn't think it would have leaked this much. Anyways, there is a screeching noise coming from the engine, I believe. Did I F*** up my engine?? Help me please ASAP!!!!!
Most likely, yes. Stupid, I know, but my engine must be leaking more oil lately. You think it's ok to drive to mechanics at least like this? Thanks for your help. Most likely, yes. Screeching noises usually mean a bearing is seized or about to seize. The fact it stalls and won't start indicates its more likely an oil pressure issue, since many car computers will shut the engine down to protect it from damage, if a low or no oil pressure condition is detected. You need to take it in ASAP and have it checked so any damage is kept to a minimum.
Could be a belt screeching. Fan belt, A/C belt, Serpentine Belt, alternator belt, etc. Easiest way to isolate which belt is to open the hood and use your ears to see where the screeching is coming from. Left, right, front, behind the engine? Spray some WD-40 on the belt you think is making noise and if it quiets right away, then that is the belt making the noise. Either the tensioner needs adjusting or the belt needs replacing. The WD-40 does not hurt the car, it'll start screeching again in a few days when it wears off.
It is your serpentine belt slipping on one of
the metal pulleys and the friction is causing the high pitch screech. The belt
may need to be tightened or replaced, which is an easy fix.
The high pitch sound may come from the brake pads as metal parts hit the disc to signal the owner that it needs change. The metal parts gets exposed when the pads have worn out. The brake also has a hub to cover the disc. See if the metal plate is hitting it but this issue would appear when the wheels are in motion. Check if it is the belts, have the tension checked out. Other than that the bearings are the other items on your wheel that could cause a high pitched sound when you car is in motion.
If your C/V joint is going bad it will make a nasty clicking sound and get louder the longer you leave it unattended. If this noise went away it could have been something stuck it the moving area of your wheel and just worked itself out.Keep an ear out for the noise to return,it it dosen't come back be happy.
hi as the timing belt is toothed it would not slip however it may be loose and in need of renew? as you do not mention milage ie period the belt is due for replacement ? the screech if this above is problem? would/could be the belt slip on the adjuster bearing which should also be renewed with belt i would first check out the alternator/p/steer belt as the loading of belt if slack/worne when starting from cold will give screech as it starts to overcome load of alter and especially p/steer oil pump then noise ceases as engine warms?? if you drop this belt off bfore you first start from cold ? would give an indication of which belt req's attention ? ps! as for age of car/milage? would not ignore the recommended milage for timing belt renewal ? hope this helps you diagnose problem ?
