Dear friend-it sounds like you are having a circulation problem, when the engine has reached normal working temp feel the two radiator hoses they should be the same heat, also check the water pump to see if the impeller is not loose,it is not to say that the radiator is clean after a flush,it must be opened to clean.

Same happened to my vehicle and it was a blown head gasket but as you've just put a new head in it shouldn't be that. I put some 'chem weld' in and that fixed the problem. Re the above reply, the radiator hoses should be way different temperatures because one is cooled and one comes out hot from the engine.

2000 mazda mpv overheating with new water pump and hoses?

Hello,

If you car is still overheating with new water pump and new hoses, there is still a few other things that can cause your over heating problem. Now, by you replacing water pump is good that you took care of one of the main things, however here is some other things to look at.

Number One, is your thermostat. Sometimes the thermostat gets worn out, and will not open and close properly, it is designed to open under a certain temp, but it could be stuck or warn out.

Number two, is check out your radiator, can put under pressure test, but best thing to do is a radiator flush, and see if flows proper. Sometimes the radiator core/coils get clogged.

Number Three. Check to see if your fans are coming on and proper speeds, normally as car gets to a certain temperature, they will kick into high speed.

Last thing, is make sure you have no head gasket leaks, as this could cause over heating, best way to check that, if its not obvious is, pressure test.

My opinion what I would first check, is the water thermostat and then radiator flush, if fan is working.

Thanks Mike.

Engine warms well, heater fan blowing well, but very little heat comes into cab

It could be one of two things.
1. Bad thermostat. Your thermostat is pobably not opening when the engine warms up. Install a new thermostat and you should be OUT OF THE COLD. If not,
2. Your heating core and radiator is probably clogged. One way to solve this is. Flush out your radiator with radiator flush kit. Pease read your owners manual, (YOU NEED TO USE A SPECIAL TYPE OF ANTI FREEZE). If you use the the green color Presotne anti freeze, It will gradually corrode through the linings of your radiator. And the green color prestone anti freeze will blow out the radiator. So read your owners malual ( I beleive it says you have to use Dextron Anti Freeze ( Pink Color).. Replace your thermostat and flush out your radiator. Then refill your radiator with dextron anti freeze. Also make sure the anti freeze resivor is filled to the proper level.. Once you do all of this, YOU DEFFINITLY WILL BE IN HEAT.. YOU CAN DO THIS YOUR SELF ( iT WOULD TAKE ME NO MORE THAN 1 TO 2 HOURSFOR ME TO DO THIS IN MY DRIVEWAY) OR YOU CAN HAVE THIS DONE AT ANY QUICK LUBE LOCATIONS... HAPPY MOTORING

My car keeps over heating

You should never replace a head gasket if you are not 100% sure that it needs to be done. Your mechanic should do a compression test to check for a blown head gasket.

I would have the system back-flushed and refilled with new coolant mix. Also check the temperature switch and cooling fan(s) to make sure they are working. Also check to make sure the AC coil in front of the radiator is not plugged with dirt, bugs, etc. and blocking flow to the radiator.

Overheats

1. The radiator fan relay switch may be bad. Replace the little black box in the fusebox under the hood.
The socket is marked "Radiator fan".

2. The radiator fan may not be spinning. The motor may be disconnected or burned-out.

3. The lower radiator hose may be collapsing. It should be "firm" and not "squishy". There is a metal stent lining the hose. It may have rusted and collapsed.
