Got 96 buick 3.8 4t60.e 4speed trans auto code p1870 trans sleep then i top;ed up fluid and reset dtc. if trans is still sliping what can i do next and may there be something i missed .thankyou

If you have transmission slippage and fluid level is correct, then you most likely will need to have the pump replaced at minimum and an overhaul of the transmission at the most extreme. Not a cheap repair in any case. If the fluid on the dipstick is brown, that indicates internal clutch wear. Good luck!

    Issue could be wear in control valve body. System tries to correct problem by increasing preasure may be indicated by harsh 1-2 upshifts when trans temp is hot. Latter models had an upgraded control body that will cure it if this is the issue. resulted in a dealer service buliten for some models.

Circuit Description
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) slip by calculating the difference between the engine speed and the transmission output shaft speed.
If the PCM detects an excessive amount of slip when the TCC is engaged, then DTC P1870 sets. DTC P1870 is a type B DTC.

1997 Buick Lesabre Custom 3200. Error codes P1870 & P0740. No prior indication. Drive one block, sounds like axel connections in transmission are binding and rarely slipping.

Transmission shifts hard into 2nd and 3rd and has a p1870 code and i replaced siliniod and transmission fluid and pan filter ,also changed throttle pisition sensor . what else could throw this code ?

Check the transmission cooler. If the transmission starts to run hot , it will start to shift hard. The cooler could be clogged and the transmission is not being properly cooled. Also check the fluid you used. GM transmissions can require a special additive that is in the fluid. especially if it has any type of positraction or traction control.

My 2002 gmc wont shift and code p1870 came up it will stay im low gear

You can replace the transmission valve body as per the instruction or install a new TCC apply valve kit. However the installation requires for the valve body to be removed and honed out by a special tool. I wouldn't recommend this procedure unless you have the proper tools and the know how about the inner workings of the automatic transmissions.

Code p 1870 came up and truck wont shift

You can replace the transmission valve body as per the instruction or install a new TCC apply valve kit. My car runs perfect but it has code p1870. oil trans looks a little light brown, i dont have any problem with the trans, it works very smooth. why check engine light it says code p1870????? can a dirty oil...

yes, when you burn your transmission fluid, its just like when you burn your motor oil. Lower vescosity means more friction. more friction, more heat, more heat messes with your sensors inside the trans causing them to send a code to the ecm. do a filter change and transmission flush. clear the code and retest.

DIRTY TRANSMISSION OIL .

no but a low fluid level could cause a slip telling the ecm there is a slip top it off then clear the code and drive a few miles if this code comes back i would say there is internal damage to the tranny

Reset code trailer towing may set code gm 4l60E

Diagnostic trouble code P1870 (Transmission Component Slippage) is a General Motors-specific code whose set parameters are determined by transmission type and engine size. The PCM monitors and compares engine speed to vehicle speed after the converter clutch has been commanded ON in either high gear or Overdrive. Should the expected rpm ratio exceed predetermined parameters, DTC 1870 sets. And upon doing so, the PCM elevates the transmission main line pressure and stops converter clutch apply.

Once the vehicle has made it to a cruise state, the PCM then begins to monitor the vehicle's cruise ratio. If at some point the transmission begins to slip, P1870 sets and line pressure is elevated in an attempt to stop any further slippage and prevent further damage. This would explain why DTC 1870 Ls often accompanied by a complaint of a hard 1-2 up shift.

When this code sets, it could have any number of causes, ranging from the sump running low of fluid to a malfunctioning torque converter. Take a GM 4L60-E transmission, for example. When it's in Overdrive, the forward clutch and the 3-4 clutches are applied, as well as the 2-4 band. Now add the converter clutch. This is what the PCM monitors at cruise. If the ratio breaks away, the cause could be any of three components, the hydraulics that operate them or the electronics that control them. Fortunately, experience has shown that in most cases, the cause can be traced to some form of converter clutch failure as a result of valve body concerns. With GMs 4L80-E transmission, this code has usually been the result of a cracked converter clutch piston.

Put a line pressure gauge ($55 shipped on Ebay, or visit a local trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive to verify proper line pressure. Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should be around 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be at least 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. If base pressure is low, trans or pump is worn out. If max pressure is low, check EPC solenoid. If reverse is slow to engage, and line pressure does not come up to at least 130psi in reverse, replace the boost valve with a Transgo 0.049" - 0.500" boost valve (easy fix in pan), and replace the servo with an upgrade servo from a Corvette 4L60E. This will give you a more firm shift and address the DTC 1870 which is common to a weaken Boost valve or faulty EPC valve.
