Do the basic things first like giving it a good tune up, from changing plugs, wires, cap, rotor and see if that change or make a different. next if still not getting good gas mileage, have all injectors and fuel regulator check. if the car has high miles in 100k, have the timing belt check and replace it if you have not done so. bad timing belt either jump time or out of timing will also caused poor gas mileage.

There are many possilities. Dirty air filter, fouled up spark plugs. Ignition system problems. Timing problem. Also maybe the thermostat is stucked open, causing the car to run below normal operating temperature which also cause it to burn more fuel. Also the fuel pressure regulator maybe defective.

My polo gti 1.8t its cruncking but failing to start,so i want to know what can be a problem

Hi Beacon Is this a new problem have you had the vehicle long. Have you had any work done or accessories fitted or maybe re-fueled prior to this issue any of these may be affecting your vehicle. Sorry but this can be caused by so many faults.
The first thing you need to do is have the fault codes checked, hopefully this would then give some direction to what is happening.
It could be fuel related or ignition or even the 5 volt reference circuit. It really needs to be checked by a qualified person as methodical testing will be required. Good luck

Dies in hot temprature

Sounds like a fuel problem.
A carburettor will hold some petrol so your car probably starts then when that is gone it may stop, could be that what is in the fuel line being from the tank to the carburettor is evaporating in the heat this would mean no more fuel till the fuel pump, pumps more fuel through.
Or could be a blocked fuel filter this is not a big expense but should be done by a mechanic.
Just to make shore I would suggest you have a look were you mostly park the car, make shore there are no stains on the concrete as you do not want petrol leaks.
Also have a look under the actual car.
Regards Craig.

Hey, Just recently bought a 2001 Petrol Golf gti that'd done 99,000kms and hadnt had the timing belt done. I'm currently on 101,000... I know it is probably not recommended I drive anymore, but...

Volkswagen recommends only to check the timing belt & tensioner first time at 90,000 km, then every 30,000 km. Renew as necessary.
CAUTION: The most important fact is that the car is 10 years old. Do NOT drive the car without timing kit renewal !!!

2001 gti won't start, it cranks.

the first thing to do is find out whats missing, you will need to see if it has fuel going to the engine, this is done with a fuel pressure gauge, then you need to check for spark, remove a sparkplug wire from a sparkplug and with a spark tester check for spark, there could be a loss of spark or fuel and last thing may be a broken timing belt.

your computer can have those codes stored in memory although theres nothing actually wrong. you can unplug your battery for about five minutes then hook it back up this should free the codes out of the system.also if youve traveled more than 30,000 miles id relpace the plugs in do a complete tune up.

My 2001 polo gti has the abs light and the brake

lift up the rear seats (the bottoms, they lift up and slide forward) there should be 2 black connections there, check they are connected. Check your brake fluid level, if both are ok, (the following is just a guess) disconnect battery for about 30-45mins. this should reset the error (if there is one). failing that, VAG-COM it or take it and get it checked properly

VW Polo Classic, fuel efficiency problem

Has the car been serviced recently?
If not I would suggest getting it done. Not sure if you have diesel or petrol, but oil can thicken causing more load on the motor and airfilters get blocked and can cause a rich fuel mixture.

If petrol you can take out the plugs to check if they are a light brown colour, if very dark or black you need to check and adjust carb/injection settings/filter.Need to know what engine it is really.
