The brake switch is out of adjustment or it is defective. The switch is activated by pressing down on the peddle. Look underneath the dash & using your hand see if the plunger releases when you press down. If it doesn't, it's stuck. If it does release & break light doesn't work, change the switch. Hope this helps! If it helps don't forget a positive evaluation of this advice.

If the bulbs and fuse is good, under the dash, on the back side and near the top of the brake pedal is the brake light switch, press down on the brake with hand and see if that button is popping out, if not , tap it with something, if it pops out then, check to see if the lights work , you will need somebody back there while you press on the brake, if lights still don't come on replace switch.

More than likely it will be a faulted brake light switch...located on your brake pedal itself.....closer towards the firewall.. easiest to buy a chiltons manual...or possibly ask your neighborhood auto repair shop for the wiring schematic for your brake light switch.....hope I helped!!!

Brake controller or trailer brakes connections or brake light to run system

The brake switch at the pedal does have six wires, but none go to the multifunction switch (on the steering column). The white wire with tan tracer goes to the combination flasher to be integrated with the turn signals/hazard lights. The combination flasher is under the dash next to the steering column and has a sixteen pin connector (ten of which have wires).

95 Dodge Dakota headlights, taillights dash lights suddenly went out. Have turn signals and flashers, no brake lights. Replace 15 amp fuse under dash that was blown nothing, replaced headlight switch

Did you check for voltage at the 50 amp fuse circuit. Even if the fuse is good if no voltage on the fuse circuit, the circuit is still dead. There is a light green wire that carries voltage from headlamp switch to dimmer, is that wire hot with headlamp switch on?

There are wiring diagrams for free, just about everywhere, if you don't have one. Autozone .com has free wiring diagrams on vehicle repair guides link. You have to register your vehicle, year--make--model, all that good stuff. It's free.

1994 dodge dakota brake light ground location

The ground wiring on newer vehicles is a little complicated. Older cars, the ground would have been to the body around the tail-lights, but these have a ground wire in the harness and is connected to the turn-signal switch, and other sources. I don't think you have a ground problem. Does the fuse blow as soon as you press it into the fuse-block, or when you step on the brake? I believe you have a dead short somewhere, possibly a pinched turn-signal wire close to the tail-light assembly. Brake lights work through the turn-signal wires from the turn-signal switch on the steering column. That's how you can have one side blinking for turn while the other side stays on for brake. I'm kind of shooting in the dark here because I don't know what all you've done. If you replaced the turn-signal switch in the steering column, you may have pinched a wire or something there. Another thing, if the fuse doesn't blow as soon as you press it in, will both turn-signals work as long as you don't press on the brake? If you can provide a little more information, I might be able to help you more. One last thing....Have you replaced tail-light/turn-signal bulbs? If so, be sure you used the right bulb. You should only have two bulbs, one for back-up lights and one 1157-type combination for tail-lights and turn-signals. I have seen people use a single contact (1056) bulb in place of a 1157, which creates a short from brake/turn-signal back into the tail-light circuit. I do have a 1994 Dodge Dakota.

My 1994 dodge dakota blows brake light fuse, replaced sw and still blows fuse after 2-3 times I push on pedal

You'll have to disconnect the lights to track down the short. It could be one of the lamp sockets, or something in the wiring, or in the turn signal switch.
