This may be a faulty transmission control solenoid. As you know, automatic transmissions use pressurized hydraulic fluid to change gears. ... When this is faulty or not working properly, this can cause a delay in gear shifting or in some cases cause the car to not shift at all.
May check fluid level and if low would more than likely indicate a leak. could also be a sensor that controls the shifting. does check engine light come on and if so,this could indicate a bad sensor.
sounds like your torque converter going bad. change the tranny fluid, and look for metal shavings (have a pro do this), sometimes you can squeeze enough life out of a bad tranny/torque converter by changing the fluid, or it might just be a clogged tranny filter. change the fluid, and if theres metal shavings in it, sell it while it still runs.
Without getting into transmission diagnostics that would require special tools, you can check the transmission fluid level. You could also drain and replace the trans fluid to see if this solves the problem. Changing the fluid is considered regular maintence, and will not hurt a thing. The trans will benifit from fresh fluids in the long run also.
I had the same problem on a toyota truck after I had it lifted that is, the shif linkage was not properly adjusted. If I held the shifter down it would not jump outta gear, but hit a bump or stomp on the gas and it would
theres many things that can be the cause, instead of having people tell you to try this and that, change this and that, scan codes it will point you at problem area and start from there
