Service air bag light on in suburban - Suburban 1500 Chevrolet Cars & Trucks

SOURCE: The service air bag light is on.

Sometimes the wiring under the passenger seat can become compromised from objects in floor becoming wedged under the seat.May need to be reconnected if possible..Usually if the air bag light remains on , it means the air bag will not engage if needed. Should have the dealer service department check for you.

First of all you need to get this problem fixed ASAP. While the airbag light is illuminated, your SDM (Sensing and Diagnostic Module aka: the brain of your airbag system) shuts of power to the airbags. In which, if you are in an accident your airbags will not deploy while this light is illuminated. You need to take your vehicle to a GM dealership. A Tech 2 scantool is needed to retrieve the code from the SDM. Hopefully it won't be a costly repair, but is something that defineatly needs to be corrected soon. Good luck and hope all works well.

On your Suburban. The AIR BAG light can come on.
For a Lots of PROBLEMS.
But it has the funtion to go OFF it self.

The First Step to do are.
1 - Determinate if you was not. on accident in the Vehicle.
if yes. Check the Front impact sensor. Under the lower Rad support. If is damaged replace.

2-- Remember if you Did a Clean up on your car. Removin the
Seats. If yes .. Check the seat belt Bucklet. ( seat belt recievers)

3- Check all the connection under the Seats.

If everything is OK..

I recomend take the car to any Autorepair shop to be Scanned with the Respective Diagnostic computer.
To see exactly what is the problem.

all you need to do is make sure you disconnect the negative battery terminal.reconnect after 5 mins. if it doesnt go away, then you have a problem with airbag system.

the only way you can find out the problem is to have it put on a scanner, this will tell you if it is the bag the clockspring, the sensor on the bumper or the computer. if you bought the truck used and the light was on when you bought the truck it might not even have an airbag in the wheel. I would ask them if they fixed the truck and replaced the cover or glued the cover back. take the truck to a bodyshop and ask them to scan the airbag computer if it can be reset they will do it at this time and you are done or they will tell you what is wrong and when you fix it the light will go out. if you have to get a airbag get the computer with it and replace both at the same time. the airbag is simple always pull the fuse before working on abs remove the four bolts under the steering wheel.unhook the wire, the clock spring is what the wire is connected to it is so you can turn the wheel and not hurt the wires if you have to replace it then take the screws out and remove the wire and put the new one one. the sensor under the bumper is just a little black box and they will be able to tell you if they are bad and the one to replace when you have it scanned. there is a separate computer for the airbag it is located under the seat it has a yellow wire running to it. you will have to replace the computer and it has to be from a vehicle that has not had the air bags blown. remove the fuse for the airbag and then take the two or four bolts that hold it to the floor out remove the wire and bolt the new one in then replace the wire and fuse and you are good to go. these computers can't be reprogramed but have to have new componets soldered in there are companys that will do this for around 75 dollars but you can probably buy one cheaper on ebay or your local salvage yard. if you wrecked the truck and replaced the airbag then you need to switch out the computer they are single use so send it off or buy a used new or how ever you want to do it. hope this helps.
