I have to lock and unlock my peugeot 406 with a locksmiths key and recently it has become a lottery. The lock barrels in both the drivers and front passenger doors often revolve freely in their housing without activating the locks. I now dare not try locking the car in case I can't get into it gain. Can you help?

The remote actuators are \'friction fit\' in the barrels of the door locks .. so if you have to use the \'emergency manual method\' of opening the door eventually it just gets too loose to grip at all .. yiou can take the door panel apart & tighten it all up or just bite the bullet and go to a Peugeot dealer for a new remote key fob (no doubt it will be well over $100, especailly as they will have to \'program\' it (a 30 second task))

The car has dead locks via the central locking, it is very common on this car, take the drivers side door card trim off and look to see if the motors are connected correctly.

hope this helps. most likely you will have to change the drivers side motor.

Car doors wont lock with remote

Sounds like the rod that goes from the lock to the key came off. There is usually a little plastic clip that holds it together and they break and you get what you are experiencing. You have to take the inside panel off of the door to get inside it.

No power at heater fan fuse is there a relay peugeot 406

406 is prone to damaged internal contacts in the ignition key barrel, one of the cables there supplies power to the heater blowers. What happens is there is a large supporting clip that takes the weight of the bundle of cables from the ignition barrel, this becomes loose or fails and allows the weight of the bundle to hang on the back of the barrel, the end result is loss of supply to various systems as well as damage to the key barrel itself. Drop the under steering kick pannel and try a wiggle of the bundle while you have everything switched on and the engine running, if you get intermittant blowers running you have found the fault!

Peogeot 406 put key im drivers side door key just turns round and wont open the door?

If the key works fine in the passenger door then the drivers door barrel has gone and will need to be replaced. Just as a point of interest is there any sign of it being forced or does the whole door lock turn as opposed to just the centre bit
