2004 kia sorento the dome light will not come on when the "door button" is pushed in or even with the "on button" pushed in. I took the cover off the overhead light above the driver's area and noticed 2 diods soldered in place. The dome light does not have these diods. Does the dome light need diods? or is the switch possibly faulty. The light does not work when we open the door or when we use the "on button". It will come on when the dimmer is put to the "on" position.

The problem is the diode needs to be replaced. The dome light works in the "on" position, but does not work when any of the doors are opened. The diode itself is about half the size of a dime which you can buy from a kia dealer for less then $20. You don't have to disconnect the battery to do this.
1. Remove the kick panel which is right next to the foot rest on the drivers side and where the fuse box is located. You will have to pry open the door foot guard to get to the other screw for the kick panel.
2. right next to the fuses box there is a wiring harness wraped in black cloth like material or some type of harness cover, just peel it back or remove. You can feel the diode through the wrap.
3. the diode is in a sleeve like incasement or cover carefully pry open and slide the diode out.
4. replace diode with new one and your done.

Let me know if you got a solution to your problem as I have the same issue with my 2004 Kia and the dealership wants $110 just to look at it.

My 2004 KIA Sorento Dome light does not come on when ANY of the doors are opened. I've check the Dimmer as well as the fuses. Both okay. Could the suggested Diode be the problem even though th

It is 99% that's the problem. This cars are well known to have this problem. If you are not electrically familiar, is better you take the car to an electrician. But there isn't too much hope. Since the diode is hard to find. I modified the way the dome light is connected so there is no need for the diode, but it's a very complicated process but is worthy. If you are lucky to find the diode it would be a very quick fix but as I stated before, good luck finding it.

Are the indicators supposed to flash when you lock a kia sorento, Mine will not flash when locking but flash when unlocking, what could be the problem. cheers snip

hi, my mom has a 2004 sorento, and she had this problem.
we found that when you UNLOCK it, the lights flash 2 times quickly. and when you LOCK it, they flash 1 time, but it is a longer flash,
if they do not flash when you lock it, it means a door is closed, now if you are 100% sure the doors are all closed, then you problem is in the switches on the door.
if you open the drivers door, and look along the seem of the car it's self, not along the door,, you should see the little black button, which is covered in a black rubber.
Try holding this down with your finger and locking the car with your remote. is the lights flash like they should, then ......
you need to find the "bumper" that is on the door, it is a small felt circle. you most likely have to move it around so that it "re-alines" wit the rubber button. then it should solve your problem,
this fix shouldn't cost you anything.
hope this helped.
