SOURCE: Location of a 2002 kia optima fuel filter
Hi on this car the fuel filter is in the fuel pump so the pump as a whole will be replaced. To get to it you will have to remove the rear seat bottom cushion. There are 2 12m bolts inbetween the top cushion and the bottom. remove them and then on the front of the bottom cushion there will be 2 plastic clips pull up on them and the cushion will pop up and you will see the acc panel for the pump.

It seems the starter is playing up.First check if your battery is charged fully or try to jump start and see what happens. If the engine start then it's either you need a new battery or else you need a replacement alternator.Test using a voltmeter if the actual altenator is working. Finally the last option is the starter motor that needs changing or fixing...Hope this helps.

dear friend-to me it sounds like you have a intermmitend spark,it could be that your plug lead sparkplug or coil pack can be at fault, fuel gets injected into the cylinder but only ignites every second time around meaning two injections one spark in an overfueled cylinder, please be careful the back fire will damage the airflow sensor

Check fuel filter in gas tank. I had an old Ford Pinto wagon that had 2 filters on it. One in the tank (it was a nylon bag over the tube into tank) and one at the carb. Anyway, the one in the tank finally after 80K, let me drive the car very slow or it would **** shut when i tried to accelerate. It was all gummed up from being directly in the tank. I discovered this as another person had the same problem. I say this as the fuel filter for the opitma is in the tank!

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter. The fuel filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles or once a year to ensure the fuel system is running 100%. Auto Zone will have the fuel filter and can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools. If it's the fuel pump failure, you have not gotten the car restarted. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know you got your car running 100% again soon and please rate.
