You can hear the fuel pump every couple times you turn the key. After turning the key about ten times, it almost starts but just won't turn over.

Yes, just started all of the sudden. After about 10 times of turning the key, it almost starts but just won't turn over.

If it was out of gas, you'll have to cycle the key to the on position, and off again several times. You should be able to hear the fuel pump cut in (inside the gas tank) for a couple of seconds each time you turn the key to the "run" position. If you can't hear it whirring, it is either not getting power to it, or it is fried. If you can hear it, but the car still won't run after cycling the key several times, you will want to change your fuel filter, and try it again.
If it continues to sputter... start and stop, it will most likely be the MAF. (mass air flow). Your best bet for that would be an auto wrecker. Electical parts are way overpriced, and if that isn't the problem, you won't be able to return it.

Smell the fumes (by covering with a hand and sniffing you hand) whilst trying to turn them over. if its smells of pertol/gas its an electrical fault and try checking your plugs if its a petrol. make sure they are sparking correctly by (warm the block slighty first or you'll snap them in the pot) removing them, and insterting them back in to the HT lead and the spark end again the block, you should see the spark. if you cant smell fuel its a fueling problem. if you're not goot with mechanics/electrics you need to take to someone who is.

Was this something that happened all of a sudden? my first guess would be fuel pump, fuel filter. pump might not be pumping enough volume. filter is the cheapest. try that first, it wont hurt anything.

Does it bog down and die, sputter like it's running out of gas? It could be either your fuel pressure regulator or maybe you have a weak fuel pump.

I'm a 43 yr old woman...my 2004 PT Cruiser started sputtering when I went to use my a/c and acts like it wants to stall. An hr ago I had my chk engine lite came on and the car was sputtering bad b

It could be moisture yes, could be electrical if the wires and plugs are older they will crack and in humid or rainy weather they would be worse-or when they are cold.

1996 audi a4 quattro seemed out of gas, fueled, now won't turn over but seems to want to

Does the fuel gage read any higher now that you put fuel in it? If so, It was probably out of gas like you suspected. However, running a vehicle out of gas is extremely ******* fuel pumps. If your fuel pump was worn, with a lot of miles, it is probably toast now.

My Ford Focus SE sputters when I accelerate. I replaced my spark plugs recently( and not with cheap ones). At times, it doesn't want to accelerate fast then starts to sputter. Any ideas on what it...

what does "not with cheap ones" mean? what did you put in.? Did it run like this before the plugs were changed? If you put some Bosch Platinum plugs in from Autozone take them out and put in the plugs that FORD calls for. You may have created your own problem. are your plug wires good?

1999 pontiac grand prix, just sputtered out...thought it was out of gas, but put gas in and it still won't start. it triess to turn over, but does not click and all lights/radio come on. what is it?

make sure the battery is fully charged,, if the alternator isn't working right , everything is run off the battery for a short time, and it will just die , the lights and other functions like the radio require little voltage to work, so try that first, if it turns over fast ,, then you need to check for fuel, if the pump is weak, it could be not enough pressure to keep the car running

Fuel problem with 03 alero.......Sputtered, died, now wont stop

I am having the same exact issue right now with my 01 Alero. Been having electrical issues with lights coming on and off. ABS was kicking on a few times even. It started sputtering like it was running out of gas, thought that might have been the case. But after I put gas in it it still didn't start. Now it turns over but nothing. What ended up being wrong with yours?
