99 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L no power to ignition. Receiving Code P1684 but battery connection okay.

I have a problem with a 1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7. Looking for some help or suggestions.

Problem: I only have a spark from the #2 coil.

Background:

Vehicle purchased from an Auction and would not start. The vehicle would only backfire. When I removed the valve covers I found that one of the rocker arms had popped out. I replace the heads with heads from a 2001 Intrepid 2.7. I used the cams, primary and secondary timing chains from the 1999 heads. Not sure if I used the original primary (left) cam sprocket from the 1999 or one I purchased in a kit from a Dodge dealership. I tried to use the new primary timing chain but it was not the same. The replacement heads were surfaced and a new head gasket was used. When I tried to start the vehicle it had no spark. The vehicle had set at several locations and parts may have been removed or changed.

Solutions Tried:

I tried 4 ASD relays with no effect. I then tested all 4 on a 2002 Intrepid 2.7 that runs and all worked. I then discovered that the Crank PS has missing. I replaced the Crank PS with one from a 2002 Intrepid 2.7 with no effect. I then replaced the Crank PS with a Crank PS from a 1999 Intrepid 2.7 and got a spark at the #2 coil only. I then replaced the PCM and TCM from the same 1999 Intrepid I got the Crank PS from and still only have spark from #2 coil. I then changed the Cam PS, still spark only from #2 coil. I have tried several coil packs on connector #2 and all have spark. Each coil pack that sparks on #2 will not spark on any other connector. Spark from #2 coil is weak.

I then replaced the wire harness from the PCM to the coils and fuel injectors and still only have spark from the #2 coil. What am I missing? Any suggestions, advice or related information will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

My 99 dodge intrepid speed odometer dont work and its not shifting into gear

This is the result of the Transmission Output Sensor failure. The new part is around $20. Labor ? s/b less than one hour. I had the same problem with my 1999 LHS. The dealer wanted to remove and replace the tranny for $2400. I towed it to private mech and he did the job for $200. This is a VERY FREQUENT problem with chrylser cars as many share the same sensor. The problem is usually called "Transmission going limp". Hey, if your engine starts to die and the tacho goes to zero, your crankshaft sensor is going also.

My '99 Intrepid won't run. Replaces the throttle

looks like your intrepid has what is know as a driveability problem
1. electric fuel pump is failing
2. injectors are mis-firing due to clogs: 1 or more has failed
3. someone has been naughty and dumped something in your fuel tank while you slept

Location of speed sensor a for 99 dodge intrepid

The "Vehicle Speed Sensor" signal is generated by the transmisson output speed sensor. That is the one located at the rear of the case. It is externally mounted. That supplies "vehicle speed" info to the other On-Board Computers. The input turbine speed sensor is located just behind the bell housing area of the case. I believe the trans controller is the only module that needs that info. The Crank Position Sensor give engine RPM info and it is located on the bell housing near the engine block. I hope this helps.

99 intrepid 2.7 engine cranks alot to get started

Did the old engine start ok? If so then take a good look at the Crank Position Sensor or the flywheel sensor ring. Some times the flywheel ring can get bent/damaged during an engine swap. It doesn't take much to dent that ring and it is really close to the CPS. The other thing you can try is turn the key on without starting several times before cranking. This will pulse the fuel pump each time and charge up the fuel pressure. If that works you have a fuel pressure issue (probably a pump) Let me know how it goes.

Engine turn but will not fire

Check all your electrical connections you were working near, sounds like you may have pulled a wire off a sensor (or disconnected one for the R&R of that water pump) or the ignition coil/pack. Also check for a "crank sensor" near the crank shaft some of those engines had a sensor there if that sensor is not fully connected ecm will not get the info it needs to power up... engine will not fire.
