Hi there, I own a 2000 4 motion v6 passat tiptronic. last year october as i pulled away the car did the same thing showing negative on the dash and left me next to the road. through endless troubles i finally got it to a person who can "fix it". 6 months later after guarantee it left me next to the road. The first "fix cost me $1500.00. I love this car but I was **********. 3 weeks ago the car went in and I got the quotation of another $ 1850.00. the previous guy messed up. there is a pressure bowl that shifts to and fro. this gets worn out and burns the clutches wich puts it into a freeze mode so no further damage could be done. What I'm saying, get a good gearbox tech that gives at least a year guarantee. well that's all i've learned through this mess. good luck.

Hello I have problem with scania r420 auto manual gearbox gear 1is normal gear2 is not going gear3 normal gear4 is not going gear5 normal UpTo gear12

If you are experiencing issues with the gearbox on your Scania R420 where gear 1 and 3 are working normally, but gear 2 and 4 are not engaging properly, it is likely that there is a problem with the gearbox itself. Here are a few potential causes for the issue and steps you can try to troubleshoot:
  1. Synchronizer ring: The synchronizer ring is responsible for coordinating the speed of the gear with the speed of the engine. If the synchronizer ring is worn or damaged, it may prevent gear 2 and 4 from engaging properly.
  2. Clutch: The clutch is responsible for connecting and disconnecting the engine from the gearbox. If the clutch is worn or damaged, it may prevent gear 2 and 4 from engaging properly.
  3. Linkage: The linkage is responsible for connecting the gear lever to the gearbox. If the linkage is worn or damaged, it may prevent gear 2 and 4 from engaging properly.
  4. Control module: The control module is responsible for controlling the gearbox. If the control module is malfunctioning, it may prevent gear 2 and 4 from engaging properly.
  5. Check the oil level and condition: Make sure that the oil level and condition are correct. Low oil level or dirty oil can cause damage to the gearbox and prevent gear 2 and 4 from

Why does my gearbox grate from first to second

The 1---2 synchro ring is worn. You can cheat without buying parts by taking the 4th gear synchro ring and swap it with the 1---2 synchro ring.

Auto transmission gear lights on parmanently

If the car runs right then you most likely have a problem with the switch box on the gearbox- probably water ingress.

My saab 9-3 convertible yr 98 wont go into 5th gear

Sounds like inside the gearbox As its 2gears i would be looking at these problems first. Fifth and reverse are on same shaft 1) clutch fault 2) lay shaft broken or bearing carrier. Collapsed 3)synchro blocker rings worn

I have a 99 VW Passat 1.8 and a few days ago and I left my light on over night. Got a jump but the guy reversed the lead on the jumper cables. Immediately afterwards I found that the car no longer goes...

auto or manual?
Either way you need the box repairing or replacing, which ever is cheapest. Gearboxes are not for amateurs and VW are known for gearbox issues.
the battery thing is likely to be coincidental

I just purchased a 1999 VW Passat and when I start to drive the car acts like a manual and it is an automatic. Now it has on the gears D,4,3 & 2 what is that about?

you have effectively got two gearboxes in the car.1is a normal auto (D) ON THE FLOOR then you have + and - for the "manual" take your pick....now here is the clever part,if you put the car in auto "D"and dont touch the gas the car will accelerate to about 35 on the flat.and will change as per a normal auto,if then when you stop you put 1/3rd gas pedal and hold that position it will go right upto about 65,stop then puit your foot right to the floor (kickdown)and the car will fly...stop...you have just reset the gearbox..try and keep to 1/3rd gas for about 25miles and you will see a big difference in gear changes/revs (smoother)but boring....

2001 Rav4 gearbox problem.

gears slipping out of mesh indicates
1 ---not properly engaged on selection
2--- failing output shaft bearings
3-- worm slip joint bush in the extension housing not maintaining alignment of the output shaft
The gear engagement is by dog teeth in the synchro ring for 5th gear and if that connection alignment is not maintained exactly by bearings and bushes the dog teeth move out of engagement at each revolution
AS reverse gear operates through a moveable spur cut gear to engage the counter shaft and the out put shaft and you are having trouble with reverse as well , indicates the out put shaft rear bearing is suspect or is moving in the box housing
