CAT, EFI, fueling ,spark, and parts that can make smog, EGR, PCV. and EVAP. or cause huge FUELING rate, errors. Injectors.,
Spark and EFI. + smog.
or say , engine controls and smog devices.
The dealer has this list. its in the fine print on all warranty's
Blue indicates a lot of engine oil is being burned, black would mean too much fuel, and white would mean excess water/coolant. Being as it's blue, it could be any one of a number of things, all internal in the engine. Could be bad oil rings, valve guides, stem seals, etc. I suggest an engine shop to properly determine the cause. Might just be a plugged pcv system that just needs cleaning, you never can tell from the outside. Is there a lot of oil in the air cleaner assembly? If with the engine running, you carefully remove the oil fill cap, is there a lot of pressure/gasses escaping? There shouldn't be.
Just because the car seems to run well, does not mean the emissions are within spec. For example, you could be running a little rich and the car will start and run great, but the exhaust is not within code.
What you can do is take it to a "smog shop", that is a repair shop with the proper equipment to diagnose the problem. If the testing is simply the reading of the on board computer codes, then most any place can read those, but you need an experinced mech to know what to do about it. May need an exhaust gas analyzer to physically sample and analyse the gasses. For the actual test, as long as the computer says all is fine, usually, you're good to go.
If the computer looses power any saved run data will be lost and must be re-accumulated to pass the smog test. A few hours to a day is usually enough run time to accumulate enough data.
If car cranked but white smoke came out of the tailpipe.The car may have either a bad head gasket or a cracked cylinder head.You mentioned changeing the radiator.Did the car overheat severely?This would stress the headgasket.The car may not start now because the plugs are wet(water)or the rings have lost their ability to seal compression due to overheating.
not good, could mean you have a leaking HEAD GASKET, and its leting your anti freeze leak into your combustion chambers, one or more, and together with fuel ignite into " white smoke " , I would get rid of this car, could lead into more problems, SORRY ! unless you can find a good friend who works on cars replace your head gaskets ! otherwise
If the smoke is white, it is caused from burning oil. It it was gas it would be black. If the smoke is coming from the exhaust pipe then the oil is leaking into the combustionchamber of the engine. If it is coming from under the hood then there is an external leak that is getting on the exhaust system and burning off.
High HC means moisture in the system. Try driving it longer then take it to the smog shop. Otherwise it could be hard like a head gasket or easy such as a PCV not functioning. Any ways you should always drive it about 20 miles before smog check, longer when the weather is cold.
If you go to an Autozone or Advanced Auto they can give your car an engine diagnostic and they can also give you a printout of the codes and their meaning.
Check your oil level. What you are seeing is likely the signs of an oil leak showing up in the form of white smoke. If you stand by the exhaust pipe and get a small whiff of it, it will smell a bit like oil. Otherwise, in this cold weather it is just the normal steam from the head of the exhaust which will go away when the outside air and exhaust reach a happy medium.
If you have weak piston rings and oil is getting past them, that could be the cause of your oil leak.
Not a solution: This is my problem...
I needed to get my car smogged, but the check engine light was on. Took to to a local smog station that had replaced a sensor for me in the past in order to pass smog. They could not fix it. Put car in dealership garage for repairs and to date, the transmission module sensor (computer) went out and the ignition sensor was out also. The mechanic replaced both and now the code P1702 comes up. What does that code mean? My car still won't pass smog....
