Question about 1994 Chevrolet Camaro

I changed my 1994 camaro trans to a turbo400. Idon't know what u-joint to get for the different yoke

Take the yoke and driveshaft to your parts store. They will measure it out for you. If you have an old ujoint you can measure that. The nice think about GM is that most of those measurements will end up being the same.

I am guessing here but I am sure that the yokes on the shafts are not in phase . That is to say that the cross pieces are out of wack. check the position of the gearbox yoke and place it directly vertical . Check the position of the joint at the other end of the shaft and the cross must be exactly the same . If it is off say 45 degrees then it has not been assembled properly. Now to explain it better . the ears of the gearbox yoke ( bit that has the 'U joint bearings in it) should be on top and underneath ---Vertical plane ---. That will place the ears of the shaft in the horizontal position now go to the rear end of that shaft and the ears of the shaft must be in the same plane . IF those eras are vertical ( the same as the gearbox yoke ) then it has to be pulled apart and rotated 90 degrees to be the same as the front of the shaft. Now the second shaft ( slip joint end and the diff end get the same treatment. So the slip joint yoke has to be in the same plane as the diff yoke. It all has to do with the shaft speeding up and slowing down as it rotates through the 90 degrees and the different "u" joint s speed up and slow down at different times so that one end cancels out the other and you have a vibration frees shaft. I have a 96 camaro and I need to replace my carrier bearing. Where can I find one?


I am not sure your car has a carrier bearing, but if it did it would be located on the drive shaft between the transmission and rear end of the car.

What is the part number for a carrier bearing on 1995 chevy camaro


(a little late in responding - but maybe someone will need this info).

If you mean the carrier bearing on the driveshaft - then you must have a v6 model. I would advise to skip replacing it and instead purchase a 1pc shaft (no carrier bearing). The cb is located near a Hi-Speed CV Joint which make changing the carrier a little difficult.
A new replacement 1pc driveshaft costs about $225.00
The carrier bearing itself may run $40-$140. ( http://www.fortwayneclutch.com/index.php/driveshaft-parts/carrier-support-bearings/gm/1993-2002-chevy-camaro-v6-pontiac-firebird-v6-carrier-bearing-new-f-body-carrier-bearing-for-v6-models-pn-s-3r80-40.html ) - for reference...
You could also check a junk yard for a 1pc oem shaft (most shafts there are bent or have bad uj's and will cost $$ to have fixed )

>when looking for an oem 1pc shaft you will find them in Steel and Aluminum. Slight differences in length when measuring center to center of the universal joints ( 40 7/8" - 40 1/2" ) - but the slip yokes vary in length, weighted / non-weighted..etc = this will make it appear the the shafts are different.
>>watch out for oem shafts with the weighted slip yoke from manual 6spd v8 models. This slip yoke may hit the trans/exhaust mount that is used on v6 models.!!

Use the yellow pages to find drive shaft only shop

They will change joints, brgs & check for straightness
& you always have them balanced

Not worth your time or not knowing what to do
They may let you wait & watch

If you need to heat the yokes to remove joints,
learn from the pros

Will a 1994 4L60E camaro transmission fit into a 1999 chevy 1500 ?


I doubt it. Most of the time the truck trans has the mounts in a different place and the tail shaft is a different size.
A trans shop or a salvage yard should be able to tell you for sure. Salvage yards have interchange info.

Transmission for 1988, 350, conversion van


A turbo400 trans will bolt up but you will have to change the drive shaft as the output shaft is longer than the 350 trans. There will be no trans exchange with a different type that will fit without some modifications.
