I have encountered this problem before. Your transmission is probably the aisin warner 5550. These 5 speed automatic transmissions were used in some maximas from 2004 - 2006. The short answer is you will at least need a new & updated valve body. Because the valve bodies tend to have that problem, other internal transmission damage may result. I rebuilt and updated a valve body for a customer and the max ran fine after that. Even now months later, my customer's transmission is still running great and it has never jerked again. I already wrote a long post with pictures on enginegeeks.com. If you want to see it go here : http://www.enginegeeks.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3

It's not the motor mounts and a transmission flush won't do the trick. These transmissions **** HARD!

Probably not the trans. if the idle is high, and motor mounts are bad it will **** pretty hard when putting it into gear. For high idle look for a vacuum leak or the idle adjuster screw is not set properly. One way to check motor mounts, is to put it into park an watch the engine while you rock the car forward and backward real hard. if they are bad you will see the engine lift up a couple inches

Will a bad transmission range sensor make my 1992 Nissan maxima jerk and hesitate about changing gears

That is possible but it should set some kind of a fault code, have it tested by a local transmission repair shop, in most cases they will do this for free in the hope of getting the repair business.

My 05 nissan maxima jerk when shift on reverse

Check your ignition coils. I have an 04 maxima, and it shift very hard into reverse. Code p0174 is my problem. That’s the no. 1 cylinder being faulty (ignition coil no. 1). I’m changing my ignition coils in the next 2 days.

My daughter just turned 16 and we bought her a beautiful 2005 nissan maxima se. We all love it. It has 71,000 miles on it and looks brand new. When I was driving it home tonight I noticed jerking and...

it might be a good idea to have the transmission serviced by a qualified transmission specialist then you will know if there are any problems with it,seeing as it is your daughters car you want her to be safe when she goes out & not have to ring mum or dad to go & fetch her........hope this helps......cheers.

Will a computer up update resolve possible transmission problems on the maxima.

You are not the first one to complain about transmission problems on Maxima 2005. I'd recommend you to take your car to a qualify technician before you get stranded.

NISSAN

Take you vehicle to a nissan dealer as soon as possible because you could be having some major transmission problems. If you have vehicle warrent, see what it covers. Could be a costly repair.
