Hello, i have a 1993 toyota, paseo, it has a 1.5 engine, with a auto trans, when i got the car, it idled fast, now it has started surging, if you unplug the vaccum line, going to the IAC, and plug it, it stops surging, and idles slower, could this be a bad IAC? or something else? thanks

SOURCE: auto trans shifting VERY HARD, possible cause?

It could be several things but I will give you a few ideas anyways to try and avoid the costly Ford dealer mechanics. Check your transmission fluid to make sure that it is full and that is still good and red. You may also want to just go ahead and change your transmission fluid but when you do so remove your transmission pan. Inside your transmission pan is your automatic transmission fluid filter screen. Make sure to clean it thoroughly and put back on filling the transmission with new fluid. Cleaning the screen is probably the most likely thing that will help. You also might want to consider using a transmission fluid additive that will help it shift easier. I've had pretty good luck with Lucas's products. Hope this helps. Be sure to let me know how it goes and if you need more help clarifying. Goodluck.

SOURCE: 1993 Toyota Camry IAC cleaning

1) remove the black intake hose from the throttle body
2) get a can of throttle body/intake cleaner
3) be VERY careful if you decide to use the straw included with the can of cleaner, it can detach and go inside of your intake manifold.
4) spray inside and use a rag to remove junk from throttle plate(front and back side), hold the straw on the cleaner can and spray into the hole just ahead of the throttle plate, let soak for 10 minutes or so
5) reattach intake hose and start engine - you may get black smoke/rough idle for a minute as junk exits the engine

Why car not going fast in local

Is it an auto? If so maybe your auto trans fluid is low.

If not maybe the clutch has begun to slip. To test that, start the engine, let it idle, put it in 3rd gear, and let the clutch out slowly. The engine should stall, with no slippage or delay in that.

I'm having a problem with fast idle and surging on a '92 Toyota Paseo, MT. I have found the two lines broken off the BVSV, could this be causing the high idle/surging?

If BVSV is to do with the brake vacuum servo unit, then yes, it could easily be the cause of the high idle speed. This will cause the engine to run lean too, and admit dust and particles into your engine.

1993 Toyota Paseo - Engine dies when clutch depressed

Absolutly, Your idle control valve at the end of your fuel rail has a vacuum line and its sensitive to pressure changes. One way to double check that would be to hook everything up normally and pull that vacuum line off your idle control valve. Are the symptoms the same?
