VSC is Vehicle Skid Control. The system is usually on, but when you turn it off (on my mother's 01 Avalon, it's on the knee bolster, below and to the right of the steering column), the indicator comes on in the cluster to let you know it's turned off - it's just a reminder to you that you don't have that safety net activated. The way the car is set up, even if you turn it off, when you shut down the engine and then restart it later, the system is rearmed automatically.

What I'm thinking is, since you've obviously had the engine on and off and the VSC OFF and TC OFF warnings are still illuminated, you probably have a problem with either an ABS sensor, a yaw sensor, or something related to those, as those systems rely on a bunch of sensors to work. If they have failed, it should illuminate the check-engine light. Stop at Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and have them scan the car's computer (it's free). They'll give you a list of the fault codes that come up. If you post them up here, I can define them for you and help you solve the problem - just post them as a reply or follow-up on this posting.

Testimonial: "Thanks a bunch!! Big help and I will do what was suggested to solve the problem. Thanks again."

WHY DOES VSC & CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYON

diagnostic reader and or workshop time required to
to fix both VSC and engine light faults /codes

VSC is brake /traction related ..... this is one explanation

It would appear that system braking, traction control, and possibly some anti rollover control is dis abled if this warning light is on. So it is both fuel in efficient and possibly dangerous to drive with this light on.

engine light

there are stored fault codes in the engine computer module pointing to faulty sensors on the car needing to be checked or replaced

What does "vsc" on dashboard lights toyota avalon mean?

The VSC is the Vehicle Stability Control. It appears there is a fault in the system somewhere. Also, if your Check Engine light is on, the VSC light will usually kick on as well. Fix whatever is causing your Check Engine light to come on first, and see if that also solves the VSC issus. I hope this helps! :) -Jason

Toyota Avalon 2006 all Check Engine, VSC, Traction Control lights are on

that code 356 is a bad coil. if it is completely dead than you now have a 5 cylinder car.... very bad not only on mpg but also on the life of the engine. when you have a "dead hole" it can affect the other cylinders and you have misfire codes for all 6..... this could mean you simply need a tune up or that there is something affecting all cylinders. check for a vacuum leak after the air flow sensor, or a ruptured fuel pressure regulator (remove the vacuum line at the regulator and smell for gas cause there should not be gas on that side of the diaphragm) fouled spark plugs, clogged exhaust or catalytic converter, stuck open or dirty EGR valve to name a few. change that #6 coil first and at least inspect or change the spark plugs... c1201 relates to a communication stop between ECU's , don't assume that as the vsc lights etc were illuminated then that is the system that is faulty. It is most likely that the fault is within the engine system but with vehicles equipped with vsc all systems are linked so a fault with one will log a code in all others ( normally a communication stop code as you have)
I would advise fixing the engine codes first then get the other systems checked out

Vsc, engine and track off light are on the dash board, what could this indicate?

VSC is for "Variable Slip Control" and TRAC is for "Traction Control". Your car is equipped with an antilock brake control system that is also equipped with VSC and TRAC. If these lights are staying on all the time, it is an indication that there is a malfunction in the system and your car will not function properly in the event that you get into a situation where evasive maneuvers are needed and/or slippery conditions could cause you to lose control of your vehicle.

SYSTEM OUTLINE

The vehicle could be in an extreme over steering or under steering tendency due to unexpected accidents, road conditions, vehicle speed, or by other external factors. In such a case, this system automatically controls the engine output and the braking to each wheel, to decrease the extreme over steering and under steering.

  • To decrease extreme over steering tendency When the system determines that the over steering tendency is large, the system applies brakes to the outer wheels according to the degree of over steering, and creates a moment towards the outer side of the vehicle, to decrease the tendency of over steering. Also, when the brakes are applied, the vehicle speed decreases while the stability increases.
  • To decrease extreme under steering tendency When the system determines that the under steering tendency is large, the system applies brakes to the front or rear wheels according to the degree of under steering, to decrease the tendency of under steering.
  • VSC OFF SW The SW to send the VSC system into OFF mode. When the SW is pushed after starting the engine, the system will be in OFF mode, and the VSC off indicator light will turn on. When the SW is pushed again, the system will be in standby mode. When the engine is stopped and re-started, regardless of the VSC OFF SW, the system will be in standby mode.
Information to the driver
The VSC system informs the driver when the tire grip is about to exceed its grip capacity, by blinking the slip indicator light and turning on the buzzer. Accordingly, the driver is informed to drive more gently.

**************************************************************************************************************************
Diagnosis of this problem needs to begin with a scan of your VSC and Traction Control and ABS control modules to retrieve fault codes. It could be anything as simple and painless as a malfunctioning Wheel Speed Sensor, or something as expensive as a damaged Hydraulic Control Unit.

2006 RAV4 V6 multiple cylinder misfire, VSC, check engine and sli

You need a scanner to pull out the engine light codes.
Use a shopu manual to aid you with the diagnosis and repair.
The slip indicator and vsc light being on means these systems are not working. Once you pull the codes and do the repair and erase the codes the lights will go off.
There will be a code in there for the misfiring.
Good luck and keep me posted.
