try picking up a blower motor resistor, about 10-20 dollars at a local part store. then check this blog out. I have replaced 4 in my 2004 dakota, Takes about 10 minutes to replace, located on passanger side of truck above floor. http://www.dakota-durango.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65326 WORTH READING AND HAS PICS !
You need to pull the senser, and fus and make sure that the connectors are clean. If there is and dirty build up on the contact areas, there will be a power surge or crossfire that will make your 4X4 engage at any moment. aalso, you may think about changing up the internal sensor in the transmission. The internal sensor runs about 150.00-250.00 not including labor. If you are good at doing your own repairs, you wil save the shop labor costs.
The rear wheel speed sensor is the most common problem on those trucks and will do what you are talking about. It is located at the top of the rear axle in the center. It picks up it's signal from a tone ring on the diff inside! If a tranny input or output sensor is bad then the tranny won't shift properly!
