Engine starts and dies after a few second. It;s like it's not getting gas. Sometimes it starts and runs just fine. The problem is intermittent for it will start and run fine for several days then the problem appears again. the fuel pump seems to be working fine. (2001 Mitsubishi eclipse 2.4L)

You may be having an intermittent failure with the fuel pressure regulator - checking the fuel pressure when the truck won't start may pinpoint this problem. If the pressure looks OK, this same problem can be caused by the ignition system as well (ignition coil or control module).

check the idle control valve they sometimes get dirty

Could be the smaller wire at the battery terminal,clean battery terminals and check connections are tight.
