Instructions on replacement of Exhaust Manifold gaskets for 1981 Corvette

Undo the clamp manifold to catalytic converter.
Undo the nuts on the manifold.
Clean the mating surfaces.
Put the new gasket on the studs.
Put the manifold on.
Tighten the nuts hand tight, centre to outside criss-cross.
Tighten some more.
Final torque.
Connect exhaust.

1981 Corvette has an electical tachometer that is driven by impulses from the distributor. First, check for blown fuses, next make sure the tach wire is plugged into the distributor. Next bypass silver tach filter or capacitor located by manifold to see if the tach moves at all. If these steps do not reveal a change in tach operation, then the most obvious next step is to remove the tachometer and get a new board for the tachometer. Unscrew and remove cluster lens and then unscrew tach bezel, and gently pull out the tach noting position of insulators. I believe these boards are available still at local autoparts locations. Replace board, note position of insulators and reinstall tach, bezel and lens. Old corvette are cool and are pretty easy to work on! Should be fixed, enjoy!

I would recommend a gasket seal be fitted with silicone at bothends at the cylinder heads ( maybe check your PCV Valve also ! )

Check vacuum hose from modulator back up to Manifold then check vacuum on the manifold. The slightest leak will cause transmission problems. I replaced those hoses the problem was solved.

there should be more than one 02 sensor so make sure to replace the correct one, but anyways they screw into the exhaust pipe usually near where the pipe meets the exhaust manifold

Typically. there is a build up in the exhaust cross over port that is centered front to back and passes directly under the choke and carb. Be sure the valve at the end of the right (usually) exhaust manifold, is free and working.

The EGR valve is subject to problems from exhaust particles, that sometimes jamb it open.

You have a vacuum leak on your intake. Check all the bolts again, and hoses, and make sure your gasket didn't slip off the back.

you will need to pull off the four retaining nuts holding seat in place. Measure the length and width of bottom support frames. Many seats are interchangable.

Sure not a problem! I have a '76 Corvette. I use Mid America Motorworks. You may also want to search Ebay. I have purchased a lot of parts from both places, and have never been dissatisfied.

I bought my carpet set, and various steering components from Mid America Motorworks. They send me a catalog about two to three times a year. They have those T-Top gaskets sets for an '81 Corvette. Your Corvette is a C3 like mine.
