I had difficulty with my key in my 98 sl1 too but I discovered that I just had to push on the shifter until you hear it click, then you could jimmy the key a bit to get it out.

I had the same problem, I found out that there was a spring that broke off in the shifter and got jamed into the shifter's path, I removed the spring and was able to get the key out after the shifter was all the way into the parked position. I however have another problem now, when I did so the wiring harness started to smoke the next day when I went to start the car.

I have had this problem with mine due to high wear, and I just used the spare as addressed from above because the vehicle is not my sole vehicle. This will fail eventually and you will need to have the Tumbler assembly removed and replaced. It runs around $150- $250 depending on the shop.

I had the same problem. My solution was simple and effective, but not neccessarily correct. For a year I disconnected the battery every time I parked, then one day the key came out. It happened to have a slight bend, so I used my spare, and have not had a problem since

Key is stuck in ignition, wont turn all the way back to remove it...if it helps, the steering wheel wont lock either

If the steering wheel wont lock either okay if its automatic make sure it goes in park. If automatic and it doesnt go in park the safety release will think you are in gear and you wont be able to take it out. Now for manual put the e brake on push the key all the while tun to the of position.I hope this help

Unfortunately this model of saturn is known for this problem. Try tapping the head of the key lightly with a small hammer and then while shaking the wheel back and forth try to turn the key. The only known permanent fix is key cylinder repalacement.

1994 Saturn SL2 Key stuck in ignition cylinder

Put some pressure on the steering wheel in one direction or the other this may take the pressure off the cylinder itself and allow you to do what is needed...hope this works.

My 1998 saturn has a steering wheel problem. It is locked in park and will not unlock do I need to replace the whole steering column I can't start it ect..

Well, if your wheels are turned to one side it may just be that you have to put a lot of pressure on the steering wheel, which in turn puts a lot of pressure on the ignition lock, making it seem like your steering column is locked. You will have to take the pressure off of the ign lock so you can turn the key. I am talking about some serious pressure. Ask someone you know that is a "bigger person" to turn the wheel while you turn the key from the passengers side.

try turning the steering wheel side to side while pulling on the key, the steering wheel will be locked, but just keep trying, it will eventually come out.
