depends on the vehicle manufacturer as many use a different system , contact a ford dealer and they will tell you exactly which # you need , hope this helps , sometimes only a dealer can give you a precise answer
the best thing to do is to replace the whole steering column with a used one, they are cheaper than fixing this one, know this for sure, average cost to repair this problem is about $400
You will need to remove the covers on the steering column and remove the key unit. they are usually held in with a C-clip and a set screw if I remember correctly.
take the vin along with the paper of the truck to show it you and the year to a ford dealer or mercury dealer and they should be able to help you and the other way is to call a locksmith but going to the dealership yourself will be cheaper.
Yes you can if you look at a tunbler assy you will see there is a pin or a tab that must be depressed to remove core measure the location on the core transfer these measurments to the housing and drill a 1/8 hole I sert a drill bit backwards which will depresse the tab or pin and pull out the core. basically you need to do some invasive tinkering or call a locksmith. You may be able to recover the key number from the dealer as well or just break the housing with a hammer.
THAT IS A STATEMENT NOT A QUESTION.
