It has to do with your airbags. Supplemental Restraint System. This light can be caused by a lot of things including any of the following:

  • Letting battery drain too low
  • Bad Sensor
  • Blown fuse
  • Unplugging the car’s battery
  • Removing the gauge cluster/installing aftermarket gauges
  • G-Force sensors that are under each of the front fenders ($250.00 each)
  • Bad clockspring (located inside your steering wheel)
  • Bad ECU
  • Bad reverse light switch on transmission
  • Car was in an accident
  • Airbag defective/unplugged

SRS stands for "SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM" THAT SYSTEM IS THE AIRBAG, THE PROBLEM IS ALMOST CERTAINLY THE COILED AIRBAG CONNECTOR UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL, IT IS CALLED A "CLOCK-SPRING" AIRBAG CONTACT, LET ME KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO REPLACE THIS YOURSELF, THIS AIRBAG CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS TO WORK ON WITHOUT HE PROPER SAFETY PROCEDURES BEING FOLLOWED.

Here's a quick check list for most common cost of SRS / Air bag problem.

Dirty contacts on driver and passenger seat belt buckles

Dirty contacts on seat belt connectors (under seats)

Dirty contacts on driver and passenger sides weight sensors (under seat)

Seat covers

Weight on passenger seat

(Example: grocery package trigger SRS / Air Bag light on the way home.)

I recommend you to pass an vacuum over the contacts and use CRC electronic parts cleaner to rule out connectivityMy SRS light comes on and off. I don't know what - 2_bing.gif problem.

I DO NOT disconnecting the negative battery connector to clean the code(s)

Without the code(s) the dealer will takes "BILLABLE" time to reproduce the problem.

SOURCE: srs light is on

Weak power from alternator.

Use a volt meter and check for the voltage.

It should be 13.8V to 14.2V

SRS stands for Supplemental Restraint System. If this warning light stays on in your Mercedes Benz, that means that there is a problem with the airbags or the components that are part of the SRS system

I have a 2004 2 door Dodge Stratus Coupe, the SRS light is on. The mechanic says it is traction control but I don't know how to turn it off.

I do not know why the mechanic would suggest the SRS warning light relates to the traction control because it has absolutely nothing to do with the TC system.

SRS means "Supplementary Restraint System" - ie, the vehicles airbag system. If the warning light comes on the system has recognised that there is a fault with the airbag system which could mean it would not deploy as designed in the case of an accident. The causes of the warning light can be numerous including a failed sensor, a problem in the wiring or physical interference with the wiring, one of the electrical plug connections coming loose or being disconnected, a problem with the seat belt pretensioners etc etc.

You should take the vehicle to a dealer to have the problem properly diagnosed, rectified and the computer reset.

Normally the warning light will continue to display every time you start driving the vehicle until the cause of the problem is identified and the issue is fixed.

The airbag system is an important safety feature designed to eliminate or reduce injury in the case of an accident. Manufacturers do not include warning systems like this to annoy owners. Just ignoring the warning and looking for ways to just remove the warning would be irresponsible, especially if you are using the vehicle to also carry passengers.

What is the SRS warning light for and what does it mean

SRS stands for Supplemetal Restraint System. It is your airbags. If the warning light has come on that means your Airbag system has a fault. It is never recommended for you to do your own air bag work unless you have the proper training. It is a life saving device and needs to be taken care of properly and promptly.

Abs and air bag light is on

The ABS stands for (Anti-Lock Brake System). The air bag light or SRS stands for (Supplemental Restraint System). The lights are staying on because there is a problem with both systems. They have nothing in common with each other. I suggest you have this looked at by a professional. Working on the SRS can be hazardous so leave that to a pro.

Whats does it mean when the SRS lights up?

SRS stands for Supplimental Restraint System. It's a fancy term for the airbag system. If the airbags have not actually been deployed in a crash, the indicator can be triggered if you turn on the ignition with part of the SRS system disconnected (for instance if you removed a seat and disconnected the wiring harness underneath), or if a component has failed.

Srs

SRS stands for Supplemental Restraint System. It has to do with everything that is related to the airbags: Sensors, Control units, Seat Belt pre-tensioners and passenger detection systems (if your car has one). When the car is started, the system will go through a series of self-tests to make sure that the entire system is working properly. The SRS light will either flash during this test or remain on steadily during it. If there is one thing that failed at this test, the light will remain on and I understand that your airbags will not work while this light remains on. You need to have it checked at a dealer, but be prepared: it will cost some money to check it and that's before they discover if anything is wrong that caused the light to stay on in the first place.
