The Glow plug warning light on - Grand Vitara

I have a 2000 Deisel Grand Vitara. The Glow plug warning light is permanently on. The glow plugs have been changed with no effect. Can you suggest what might be the cause?

dmftrucker- Many thanks for your help. It looks as it if the relay is working Ok however. The plugs are powered for about 10 minutes after startup, but then switch off. The warning light howerever stays on. I fear the EMU may be trying to tell me about another fault.

Your power relay supplying the glow plugs may be stuck(welded contacts)on and need replace

Testimonial: "Many thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately relay seems fine. I think it may be an engine management problem."

have you trouble shot the sensor circuitry? I'm not sure on your vehicle if the coolant temp sensor triggers the glowplugs off or if there is a head sensor, con you go to the library and consult a "Chilton's Auto Manual" this book may give you some ideas or answers?? Good Luck Dan

1998 Toyota Grand Hiace 3.0 Diesel. My van just quit and I lost power steering and my glow plug lights do not come on and the motor turns over but sounds like no diesel.

When the engine stops, the power steering stops because the engine powers the power steering pump with the serpentine belt.

There could be many reasons the engine stopped and the fuel pump is just one of them. Check for DTCs and diagnose the vehicle electronically with a pro grade scan tool computer.

Glow plug light comes on and i lose power on hills suzuki grand vitara 2.0l deisel,if i slow down or stop light goes out and power is ok.its a 1998

Hi. I'm not sure at this point. Your information sounds like a power or charging issue. How is the battery, charging system and related wiring, cables, terminals and grounds? There also could be a fault related to the ECU. A poor connection, shorted wire or damaged component. The glow plug light shouldn't be coming on while you are driving. You mentioned that power returns if the brake light goes out. Which brake light (Dash or Tail lamps)? Are you also saying that power returns if you release the fuel pedal? Does the vehicle lose power while under a load? The more information the better. You are there and are the eyes and ears. Please let me know else I can do to help. Good Luck.

glow plugs failing

Is there a sensor that sends a signal to the glow plug relay to say that the engine is cold and trigger the relay to heat the glow plugs in a 2002 suzuki grand vitara with the 2.0 hdi rhz code engine

It will work through the temperature sending unit for the engine. You may have one or two. Some companies dedicate one temp sensor for the glow plugs and some don't.

A Deisel jetta need to replace glow plug rely ,,where is it..?? And its very very hard to start ..is this going to do it and how do you know if the deisel is worth keeping it has like 300,000 _ thanks...

not always the golw plugs can be bad and the engine can be low on compression. does it start alot better if you add a gallon of kerosene to 5 gals of desiel? Or a quaart of gas? the glow plugs can be checked with a test light the connectrs are in plain veiw and the wires going to them are big. Follow the wires back to the relay they go straight there, the relay is real close to the battery as it draws alot of power follow the big wire on the battery that doesn't go to the starter and thats the glow plug relay. they last good but the connections get dirty, reconnect all the connectors on itand see with the key on if the glow plug light comes on on the dash that wire that lights the light is the same wire that lights the light fires the glow plugs. You can take the wire off the glow plug( you need to do it anyway it's a yearly service anyway and with a test light connected to power touch the disconnected glow plug with the lights probe and the light should light, not all of them are likly to be bad but if you find two or more just change them all as the ones that aren't out are likly to fail anytime and if you want to drive though the winter you need all the help you can gt. the battery cables and the one going to the glow plug relay are likly to fail at the battery so go over this good It might start fine with just two glow plugs working I'd pick the two center cyclinders or the two outboard ones as once the engine starts it'll keep running long enough to start the other ones. low voltage as your cranking can effect the glow plugs but the relay is suposed to turn the glow plugs off at cranking and time out after they've been on long enough. dirty connections are almost always the problem so clean everthing before you replace anything. Needs cleaned before yu put on new parts anyway and the glow plugs need to be taken out with the right tool or you may end up with a broken off glow plug in your cyclinder head.
