On my disco 1 200tdi 1993 the temp gauge reads higher than usual but not overheating, also int temp warning light comes on when gauge on half way mark. Also once the dash went dim but temp warning light lit v.brightly(flashing)? Is there a known fault? fuse box problem? plus stereo (non standard) would turn off once? Unplugged to cure, woorked fine since!!!????

Try changing the sensor ,have a funny feeling that its reading incorrectly ,comes with age ??the internal components breaking down giving the wrong resistance

possible no water in the engine and it is overheating
this is indicated by the temp gauge rising and falling
temp gauge sender units need to be immersed in water full time to get a reading so if it goes up that is in water and when it falls back that is in nothing or steam
hot engine would account for hot floor
the usual suspects are:
stuck shut thermostat
clogged raiator
dead water pump
low coolant level
it's sunday, rovers don't work on sunday.
Then again, maybe its wednesday, rovers take half a day then.
Bad oil pressure sensor, oil pump, balancer-shaft bearings..
Which grade of oil did you use? Did you try to check the pressure with an oil-pressure gauge?
If your coolant overflow is bubbling then regardless of what your gauge says you are having overheating issues. If your coolant is missing with no aparent leaks then you need to check your oil for a milky consistency and apearance which would most likely point to a blown head gasket. This would also explain overheating. Hope this helps
This car has 2 separate temp sensors, 1 for the computer and 1for the gauge, you need to be sure the engine is not overheating first, but most likely it's a bad coolant temp sensor causing a false reading..
