Getting P039 History and P056 current. Transmission shifts ok but has to be around 40 mph to go into drive. Mileage is terrible. Also getting SD71 code. EGR valve was not dirty, replaced the tps thinking about replacing the MAP sensor. Idles rough at times with a misfire. Wondering if they all tie in together.

If it's in limp in mode it won't shift out of 2nd gear. Get the trouble codes read. The solenoid pack is a pretty common failure. But don't just throw parts at it. Get the codes first.
Your description sounds more like a torque converter clutch problem. It would explain the poor mileage, having to floor it to go. I suggest having the transmission scanned, looking at the slip speed of the torque converter clutch.
Roger, that doesn't even make a whole lot of sense to me. If the overdrive is causing the transmission to slip, wouldn't it also cause the fuel mileage to go down? Are you sure the transmission is slipping? Or is the transmission simply shifting in and out of overdrive? If it is, is it shifting at the proper speeds? Driving at around 40 - 50 Mph will sometimes make the transmission go in and out of overdrive repeatedly. This can be perfectly normal.
Have you checked your transmission fluid level?
Is your overdrive off light flashing? If the transmission is actually slipping the OD OFF light should be blinking at you to let you know there is a transmission problem. Either that, or the Check Engine light will be coming on. In either of these cases, you need to scan your onboard computer network for possible fault codes.
I don't think any body can help you here.
any mechanic have to drive the car to experiece the problem . Impossible to fix it over the phone.
Take it to mechanic shop to prevent futher damage.
I uually shift into 2nd at around 10 mph 3rd at 25 4th at 33ish and 5th at 40. I get 30 mpg on a 2006 Aveo which only has a 27 mpg rating for my car. The high way is a totally different story. I dont look for gas mileage for quickness. But If you want the recomened shift points look in your manual. I learned the early shifting tric from my 01 focus. It had a shifting light. I got 33 intown mpg with that one
Check your transmission fluid level and/or have the fluid changed. If problem persist have a transmission professional at a dealership or transmission shop service it.
