52 PCM sees a battery voltage either above 17 volts or below 11 volts.
If there is an Auto Zone around your area, you can got there and have them re-scan your car free of charge and will have the alternator in stock, if not there in a day with the step by step instructions to replacing it with common tools in under 1 hour and less if your good with tools.
Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. Be glad to answer any more questions you may have. Note over charging the battery is worst then under charging, over charging will over heat the battery causing it to have a shorter life time.

Most likely either battery or alternator. Also clean all the connections. If its an old battery I would change the battery first. Though if you take out the alternator it can be tested. If you have any other questions let me know.

11. Trans axle Codes present

Saturn Sc1, Sc2, SL1, SL2 Automatic Transmission codes when turning right after a reset or when hitting third gear. Intermittant dash lights dead, fuel pump failure and check engine light says various codes having to do with car starting in gear. Mine had a bad ignition switch which burned up the wires connected to the automatic transmission start satety switch. On the back of the transmission a black plastic device connected to the shifter cable. You must remove the black plastic shield from the upper wire to see if the wires inside are burned on the top connector that has six wires. If they are get a junkyard replacement connector and wires. Replace the ignition switch first to avoid same problem.

1993 Saturn SC-1 Cooling fan never turns on.

Does the car overheat at idle? If yes, first check fuse in fusebox in engine compartment. If fuse good, check for voltage at fan connector using test light with engine on and car hot. If no voltage, replace fan relay in engine compartment fusebox. If voltage is present, replace fan. Please reply with any additional questions.

The codes do not necessarily indicate any failed parts. You have to troubleshoot the system to figure out why the light is coming on. It might just be a loose wire somewhere. What codes have you been getting?

1998 saturn sc1 revvs sporatically

first get it scanned for codes 2nd look at the air filter, and the mass air flow unit sitting on top for leaves or dirt , then check the air intake bellows that runs to the intake check it for cracks? also look and listen for vacum leaks around the engine possible cracked hose causing ecm to get false signals from airflow meter? good luck

I have a 95 saturn automatic. It looks like sometimes it will not downshift and stall on a stop. At the same time, check engine comes on.

When the check engine light comes on you need to have the codes read. Most auto part stores will read them for free.

1996 saturn sl2 rattles while air conditioning is on

Found a STB on this... (97-T-13A). Applies to all 96's including and above VIN TZ238241. It says the rubber suction hose on the A/C compressor may rattle against the battery tray or transaxle housing...their fix is to cover the hose with a piece of foam rubber.

99 Saturn SC1 ''Service engine soon'' light is on.

Did you get the code that triggered the SEL? If you know that, it will be easier to diagnose your problem. You can do it without a tool on the old saturns. Just need a paperclip. :

Use a paper clip to jumper Terminal A and B of the ALDL *Assembly Line Diagnostic Link* which is above your left knee.
Terminal A is an interal ground and is the top right terminal in the connector. Terminal B is directly adjacent and to the left of Terminal A.

Turn the ignition to ON.

All codes are 2 digits between 11 and 99. Codes are displayed on the SES light by flashing the light with short and long pauses to distinguish digits of one code from digits of another. The short pause is used between digits of the same code, long pauses are between codes. Also, each code is flashed three times before going to the next code.

For example, the sequence of code 12 will be: flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause, then repeat 2 times. If Code 12 is not displayed, the self-diagnostic pogram i snot functioning properly.

If only Code 12 is displayed, no system malfunctions have been stored.

Any existing system fault codes are displayed in order from low to high, except for Code 11.

On vehicles with an automatic transaxle and on which exist stored transaxle codes, Code 11 will be displayed last, then the SHIFT TO D2 light will begin flashing transaxle codes of flags.

When all engine codes have been displayed, Code 12 will flash again.
