How do I remove and replace a starter from a 1993 Toyota Previa? I am told it's rather difficult and may include removing something from the automatic transmission.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. If equipped with 4WD, remove the front drive shaft.
  4. Remove the nut and disconnect the starter wire.
  5. Disconnect the starter connector.
  6. Remove the bolt holding the starter stay to the upper stiffener plate.
  7. If equipped with 2WD, remove the starter by removing the nut and three bolts.
  8. If equipped with 4WD, remove the starter by removing the nut, four bolts, and the center bracket.
To install:
  1. If equipped with 4WD, install the starter, the center support bracket, nut, and the four bolts.
  2. If equipped with 2WD, install the starter, nut and three bolts.
  3. Install the bolt to hold the starter stay to the upper stiffener plate. Tighten the bolt to 43 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  4. Install the starter connector.
  5. Connect the starter wire with the nut. Tighten the nut to 78 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  6. If equipped with 4WD, install the front drive shaft.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
Good luck and this should take about 2 1/5 hours from start to finish and if you like, use lock tight medium strength to make sure the bolts don't go lose on you.

It cant be that bad because book time is 1.8 hrs for a All wheel drive van and .8 hours for a RWD van. The procedure in my repair information says remove bolts and reverse procedure to reinsatll it. (disconnect battery first) Seriously thats what it says

How to remove egr valve on a 1993 toyota previa

That previa has a central engine, so all engine work requires you take out driver and or front passenger seat out.

The EGR placement is here >> http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairguides/Toyota-Previa-1991-1997-Repair-Information/EMISSION-CONTROLS/Exhaust-Gas-Recirculation-System/_/P-0900c1528008a1d5

What is the easiest way to remove a headgasket from a 1993 toyota previa

Hello. Welcome to FixYa.

The easiest way to remove the cylinder head is to lower the engine/transmission combination out thru the bottom of the vehicle; ie support the engine/trans, and raise the vehicle off of the powertrain assembly.

Working on the cylinder head whilst the engine is still in the vehicle is a VERY difficult endeavour.

Even though it looks like more work, by lowering the engine out; it proves much easier to work on and access all of the necessary bolts.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.

How to access top of motor on toyota 1995 previa

There is a hatch under the driver's and passenger's seats. The driver's seat hinges up to access the oil dipstick and throttle body. The passenger seat must be removed to access the hatch below it. Sounds difficult, but there are only 4 bolts to remove.

1993 Toyota Previa makes a rattling noise when running

I have had this problem before, the first time it was discovered that the stand that support the hood was not properly secured in the clip slot.
The second time the grill was loose. Check these before going to the mechanic.
