I failed the emisson's test. I have a 97 Nissan Maxima. The codes they listed were P0136 and P0325. Can you tell me what these codes mean and possible repair solutions?
P0136 indicates a bad O2 sensor. This reports poor emission performance back to the car's PCM (computer)
P0325 indicates a bad "Knock" sensor which would adversely effect drivability as far as performance is concerned. Only way to fix these 2 problems is replacement of the 2 components.
P0136 rear o2 sensor catalic efficiancy, p0325 Knock sensor. Knock sensor is very hard to replace , test your catalytic converto for possible fault or rear o2 sensor. I would go for a cat first and retest
Good luck
Change the o2 sensor first & reset the computer the knock sensor don't go bad that easy if you found 2 codes and 1 of them is the knock sensor usually it got trigger by the other code , on the maxima 95-99 changing the knock sensor you do not need to take off the intake manifold .
