With the panel removed ,the switch comes out as a complete assembly..

The Haynes service manual (#89101) shows the window switch panel is only retained by tensioners that are part of the panel and that the method of removal is to carefully pry the entire panel out of its mounting hole. Once the panel is clear of its home, the switch appears to also be only pressed into the panel seat. I think you will find that the switch has 'quick disconnect' connectors that will pull off and plug onto the new switch.

The switches in Subarus are made by Nissan believe it or not. They are not interchangeable. Anyway, I suspect you have a bad window switch. You can pickup the whole bank of swiches or replace just the one. Do a search on ebay for your part.
Has this car had body damage on the driver's door? You could have a cut wire inside the door.

2006 Outback Door-Jamb Switch Replacement
Get replacement, pull up and out on broken switch and holding wire connector un-clip old switch (be careful not to let wire fall back into hole). Insert new switch into connector of wire, slip bottom of switch through hole and rotate top into position till it snaps into place. Done.
