1990 civic hatch bk 16 valve 4cyl cranks, won't start, blows air out thru throttlebody sounds uneven when turning over, replaced plugs ,wires,cap.rotor...belt is intact.any clue?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Did it stop running suddenly, then refuse to start? Does it sound strange (like it doesn't normally sound) when it turns over, like the whole engine isn't turning over? The fact that it is blowing air out through the throttle body might suggest that your timing belt has decided (as they suddenly and without warning do) to break. That would mean that your camshaft (and your valves) were not moving in coordination (time) with your pistons (if a valve is open when it should be closed when a piston creates compression, the compressed mix will blow back through the throttle housing).

how does the engine sound while turning over does it sound normal is the timing belt still intact. if the timing belt is still intact and the engine sounds like it don't have any compression replace the plug but before installing new plugs get a qt of oil and pour about 1 or 2 caps full of oin in each cylinder this will help build the compression and hopefully it should start if it does it will smoke a few minutes but will be fine.
