Dear friend-your i10 has a obd2 plug and it is situated next to bonnet lever below the fuse box,a normal
GLOBAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM monitor will be good to solve your problem.

Testimonial: "well hidden! but exactly where you said. Thanks."

Willem is right about where the port is, but does anyone know what protocol the i10 uses, the U480 I plugged in gets link error when trying to communicate. My focus works fine with the tool.

What does iso9141 and kwp2000 mean

KWP2000 (Keyword Protocol 2000) is not a trouble code but rather is the name given to a type of communications protocol that is used for on-board vehicle diagnostics systems. Auto diagnostic tools and programmers use Keyword Protocol 2000 to read and transfer data to your vehicle's electronic control unit, or ECU.

The ISO 9141 standard refers to the communication protocol used by DaimlerChrysler, Honda, and Toyota. ... The serial data line is the means by which the microprocessor-controlled modules that are connected to it communicate with each other.

I'm having a starting problem which I believe is PATS security system related. engine cranks fine crank sensor is ok.

What make , model and year vehicle ? You mention PATS , that's ford , mercury , lincoln . Light flashing when cranking the vehicle ,anti-theft problem . Nothing you can do , unless you have a factory scan tool . Your best bet ,dealer . Disconnecting the battery isn't going to do anything . Need to have vehicle checked for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes , do diagnostic's for the code . Replace or fix what ever the problem is . If a module needs to be replace , key's need to be programmed . Dealer or mobile lock smith that is licensed ! Don't know what your trying to say here OBD reading protocol OSD 9141 AND KEYWORD:2000 ,these have nothing to do with PATS -

Bus won 39 start

OBD2 Stands for On Board Diagnostic Version 2
CANBUS means Control Area Network Bus
CANBUS is a communications protocol that allows devices and computers in a modern car to communicate with each other. It allows modern vehicles to have such functions as increasing the volume of the stereo as you speed up and slowing down the windscreen wipers when the car stops.
OBD2 is a standard for fault reporting and transmitting real time data on how an engine is behaving to an external device connected to the diagnostic port in your car. This may be a handheld OBD code reader device or a laptop equipped with suitable diagnostic software.
If you had a CANBUS capable OBD device connected to your car's diagnostic port then it would use the CANBUS protocol to exchange data with your cars on board computer systems.
With some devices this can be a 2 way exchange and can allow you to upload new engine software for better performance and program some of the other functions of the car like whether the central locking unlocks the drivers door or all the doors on the first click of the remote or requires two clicks to unlock all the doors.

DIAGNOSTICS WONT READ FAULTS

was the ignition on when you tried to read codes? sometimes it is a bad connection at the diagnostic port. have you used that particular tool to read codes on that vehicle before? maybe your tool does not support the communication protocol of that vehicle. if the tool acted as if everything was fine and just returned with a "no codes" message, then the code is probably in a different module that the tool cannot access.

Trouble code 9141

ElmScan ISO is a PC-based scan tool, and our most popular OBD-II interface. It supports the ISO9141-2 and ISO14230-4 protocols used mostly in Chrysler Corporation, European, and Asian vehicles. Be sure to determine the communication protocol used in your vehicle before purchasing this scan tool.
Processor: ELM323, crystal-controlled for accuracy
OBD-II Protocol: ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4 (KWP2000)
Output protocol: RS232
Indicator LED's: OBD Tx/Rx, RS232 Tx/Rx, Power
Operating voltage: 12V, internal protection from short circuits/overvoltages
Dimensions: 3"x4" (76x102 mm)

The interface can be used in conjunction with our free software to turn your laptop or desktop computer into a fairly sophisticated auto diagnostic system. The ScanTool.net program has a built-in database of more than 3000 trouble codes, and allows you to read and erase stored trouble codes and oxygen test results, turn off the MIL ("Check Engine" light), and display real-time sensor data. For more information about the program, please visit our Software page.
