I have an 1993 Lexus 400 with 156,000 miles on it. When I start my car, all of the lights on the dash light up. After driving for about five minutes, the lights start to flicker and then die completely. The entire dash is completely and totally dark and remains so for the rest of the trip. The next day when I start my car, the same process occurs again. The car drives fine. Thanks Elaine

Is your check engine light coming on? Sounds as if something is getting hot and then cooling down my research points to a known fault of your year and type of vehicle The electronic control module has capacitors in it that are sub grade and they melt down after awhile and have been known to cause this as well as a bunch of other driveability issues. Replace your ECM and let me know
you have a faulty power wire running to your dash light....if you have anyone (or you yourself) are skilled with mechanics, its a simple fix once you disassemble the dash and remove the gauge panel
the computer is bad and also these cars are known for the insturment clusters to go bad along with the computer. get them both fixed and it will solve your problem.
The only way to check why the check engine light is on is to have autozone or a mechanic put a scanner on the car and read the engine codes. This will tell you exactly what is wrong. Many part stores will test it for free. Mechanics will charge about $40 But you will definately know exactly what the problem is.
If gauge is fine and car smells hot. It is probably due to plugged exhaust unless you have a wire laying on the exhaust manifold and it's melting.
seperate problems. you starter is under intake manifold and is most likly the problem and the dash lights go bad on older lexus ls400's.would have to be replaced.
