The cable for the spare tire on my 2006 1500 works fine (it's all the way down) but the retainer did not lower at all so I cannot pick up the spare tire. Can anyone help? Thanks

  1. Rotate the hoist shaft counterclockwise until approximately 15 cm (6 in) of cable (1) is exposed.
  2. While holding the latch pin (3), fully depress the latch button (2) and release the secondary latch from the hoist assembly. Some side-to-side and/or up-and-down movement may be necessary to disengage the latch mechanism.
  3. Continue rotating the hoist shaft counterclockwise in order to lower the hoist the rest of the way.
  4. If this does not release the secondary latch, the spare tire hoist will need to be replaced. See the following procedure.
Important: If the spare tire hoist has been fully raised without a spare tire in place, the secondary latch mechanism may have become engaged. If this has occurred the hoist will not lower and the following steps will need to be followed:

How do you release spare tire on 1997 dodge grand caravan?

depends on where your spare is. if it is under the rear of the car then the lowering bolt is under the carpet in the luggage area. the wrench for the lug nuts also fits this bolt. turn to lower the spare tire to the ground, lift the spare by one end and reach in and point the plastic retainer straight up through the hole to get the tire off the cable. Instructions are on the inside of the plastic panel that covers the jack.

Where is the spare tire located on a 1995 ford aerostar?

Section 00-02: Lifting, Jacking and Spare Tire Stowage 1995 Aerostar, Ranger, Explorer Workshop Manual
TIRE STOWAGE Tire, Spare, Removal, Aerostar If the Aerostar is a standard length vehicle the spare tire is mounted inside to a carrier at the left rear quarter panel. To remove the spare tire, remove the wing nut and plate. A flat tire can be temporarily stowed in the same location.

If the Aerostar is the bus with a standard length body or extended length (all models), the temporary spare tire is stowed at the rear of the vehicle under the body. The Aerostar standard length E-4WD bus spare tire is mounted on the floor.
  1. Insert lug nut wrench into the actuator hole and turn counterclockwise until the cable extends to allow the spare tire to be pulled rearward from under the vehicle.
  1. Slide spare tire to the rear and remove the retainer from the wheel.
  1. To stow cable/retainer with spare tire removed, insert cable fitting into carrier rear wall slot, place wheel retainer against the carrier, and turn lug nut wrench clockwise until slack is removed.

Trying to get the spare tire off of my pick up truck

Hello, when you go to let it down can you turn the rod that you are useing to let the tire down? If not then the cable or gear box is rusted solid. That is what usually happens because of the location and lack of use. If it doesn't turn you will have to cut the cable or cradle that holds the tire up. If the rod does turn your spare tire carrier might have a safety catch. The catch can usually be released by putting a jack under the spare tire rim and raising it up. While your doing that turn the rod to crank up the tire. That should release the saftey catch and allow the tire to be lowered down.

hello
i have a 1992 and im sure this would be the same
To remove the spare tire:
1. Open both of the rear doors. Remove the
access cover from the rubber strip found
behind the left door. Insert tapered end of
lug wrench or tip of jack handle through the
access hole. Turn counterclockwise until the
cable extends enough to allow the spare tire
to be pulled rearward from under the
vehicle.
2. Slide the spare tire to the rear and remove
the retainer from the wheel.
3. To stow the cable/retainer with spare
removed, turn jack handle wrench clockwise
until slack is removed.

dont be afraid to crank on it real hard sometimes they stick.
good luck paul
