Change your gearbox oil, and clean out the oil strainer.
Should help.

( On some models, you have to remove the gearbox oil pan to clean the strainer )

Had the same problem, and changed ATF and strainer, but problem persist.

the op has flare(slip) and never said.
levels ok. and ATF not looking like metal flake tar?
1: does it in all gears.
    2: even reverse.
3: what 4speed box is there, ours has different drive lines in USA>
    4: does it flare 1 to2 , or 2 to 3 or 3 to 5?
5: does the stall test fail, in drive. and R.? both, or non?
6: if yes, stall test fails, we do line pressure test next. after filter change.
like that? the FSM book covers all on car tests. ever thing to read the book,, ?

my guess is OP back in 2009 had car serviced
and found and found box , end of the line.

Not check levels first.
and cable damage? (linkages)
get it serviced,
try a full flush and fill, (with machine) and a new filter.
is engine overheating
pulling huge loads, , in car or trailer.
going up huge mountains on a hot day? what
or just buying milk at 7/11 ?
answer with full context of a trip, like how far and out door temps
and elevation, and if hills, and what not.

Just put an external transmision oil cooler infront of the radiator. The standard cooler runs in the radiator @ 80-130 degrees celcius,NO GOOD oil gets to hot and it also raises the heat-gauge, engine runs to hot. Problem solved. Happy driving.

I have a 1996 Isuzu Trooper automatic Transmission with 144,930 miles. The transmission seems to slip slightly when I take off from a complete stop. At 15 miles per hour transmission shifts just fine the...

cold slips. can be, clogged filter.
cold AFT will not flow well in any clogged filter.
if lucky this can be it.
do not let it slip or the clutch packs burn to a crisp fast !

get a full flush and filter. and cross fingers.
ill assume the ATF levels is no low or too high. right>
do not guess at method or guess AFT types. ask. or read the operators guide, in the glove box. if not lost, if lost buy one?

Transmission slips after engine warms up

It isn't when the engine gets hot, it is when the transmission fluid gets hot that the slipping starts, due to wear of the clutches and gears inside the transmission.
First, check the fluid level to make sure it is full. If it is low, bring fluid level to full and see if that helps.
About all the owner can do with slipping automatics is trying a transmission fluid and filter change to see if transmission revives and stops slipping. The bottom pan is removed, fluid (about 6-8 quarts) is drained, and a new filter is installed before the pan is replaced with a new gasket, sealed up, and fresh fluid added. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes the transmission is worn too bad to help, and you are left with looking for a replacement transmission.
Check the fluid level first. Good luck.

My isuzu bighorn automatic transmission slips at any forward gear but good at reverse.

This is an indication that the forward clutch pack has failed in the transmission or that the clutch pack has low hydraulic pressure from an internal fluid leak or a defective check ball. Pull the pan off the bottom of the transmission, if it is really full of dark sludge you will need to replace/repair the transmission.

Isuzu bighorn 1994 manual, slips out of 4th and

Problem is the detent springs for 4/5 gear have gone weak .
If you are handy its take the top off the gearbox from inside the car and you will see the plug then the springs and balls .
If not its a transmission shop job.

Transmission Component Slipping (TCC Stuck off)

code p 1870 refers to transmission component slipping
That can be from dirty oil or a clutch pack or band slipping or low oil pump pressure in the transmission
you say that it occurs on highway driving after 2 hours and that slipping will add friction heat to the transmission oil bringing on the oil temp light
take it to an accredited transmission professional service center that works on your make of vehicle , have the oil changed which require the pan removal
at the same time that will allow the adjustments to be done
when reassembled and refilled , have a pump pressure test done
