This engine has a million vac lines.Anyway, there is an air pump on this motor and has never had a belt on it. With a new Tranny installed I thought maybe thats the HORRIBLE performance from my truck. I thought the tranny slip-age was my problem. With all the vac lines through-out the motor....maybe the vac was the problem. My brand new tranny is acting the same way as the old one. Backfiring, missing, fuel hog,ect.... Inconsistancies....I might as well put a belt on that pump since all the hoses & lines are all still conected, maybe that could cause the inconsistancies. I'm pretty sure the belt goes to the crank & pump. Any advice PLEASE!!
I don't have a vacuum routing diagram or belt routing diagram for your vehicle but, before considering replacing the belt make sure the pump itself isn't frozen (likely the reason ti was disabled in the first place.) I recommend that you do find a decent diagram, get your vacuum lines straightened out and then, do some diagnosis pertaining to any remaining problems. From what you have posted, it sounds like an ignition or engine control problem more than anything else. To do any accurate diagnosis on that, I suggest you first obtain even a basic manual like chiltons or haynes publishes, and do some careful testing as described in those books. Only then can you actually determine where your actual problem(s) are. One thing is certain...without the aid of testing, you are likely to spend a lot of time and $ chasing items that don't need attention.
Good luck...If you need help with individual tests or interpreting anything you find, there is always someone here that is willing to help!
