Why does the interior light will not go off and the door ajar signal stays on

This is caused by one or more of the door latch mounted door ajar switchs being defective. You must remove the door panel and replace the switch, it is located at the rear of the door latch, it twists into the latch.

Keeps saying door ajar and already skirted with wd 40

The door ajar switch is the problem and it is inside the door and is sealed, so WD40 will not work, you must remove the door panel and the rear glass run channel and then replace the door ajar micro switch at the rear of the door latch, it has a 2 wire connector to it

How do you get the front door panel off of a 2003 ford explorer xlt to replace the mirror

1. on the inside, remove the plastic trim that is directly inside of the left side rear view mirror.. should just snap off.
2. remove the lens from the reflector/courtesy lamp on the door.
3. pop the plastic trim holding the window switches ...pull up on the front edge (closet to hood) and tip it up until you can release the back edge of the switch plate.
4. unhook the wire connections from the switches... look for the lock tab release lever...they're color coded and only fit in one location so don' worry about where they go..
5. There are two small screws to remove...one below where the switches were, and the other behind the lens of the reflector on the door.
Once you get these out, lift straight up on the panel and it will unhook from the slots in the door.
6. unplug the courtesy light from it's spot in the door panel by twisting.
that should get you there!

Inside lights

Remove "Door Ajar" switch. Clean the switch and use a graphite type lubricant (I recommend "Dry-Slide") to lubricate the actuator on the switch. Reassemble the switch.

The switches are located inside the door panels, attached to the catch mechanism.

1) Remove interior door panel.

2) Using a T-27 Torx driver, remove the 3 bolts holding the catch in the door.
2a) The door ajar switch is the only part on the mechanism with the 2-wire harness.
2b) The switch is located at the rear catch for the sliding door.

3) Using a small flat screwdriver, gently lift the black tab on the catch mechanism and rotate the switch to remove it from the catch assembly.

4) Using a rag, clean the small round actuator and apply a small amount of graphite lubricant to the actuator and work the switch so it moves freely.

5) Reassemble the catch and the door.
