99 chrysler cirrus lxi won't shift out of 2nd, no speedometer

A 1999 chrysler cirrus lxi that has the check engine light on, won't shift out of 2nd gear, and the speedometer isn't working. Last night I shook some wires around and it started functioning again properly but this morning..same problem. Must have a wire that is shorting? Which wires would I check?

Had the same problem on my 1999 cirrus lxi. Replaced the output speed sensor on the tranny and topped off the tranny fluid... cleared the check engine light and the cirrus ran great. Caution...the output speed sensor reqires removal of the front left tie and plastic weatherproofing to replace. once you find it's locvation, the replacement is relatively easy.

I had same problems and changed the trans control module mentioned above. right side of engine compartment, silver box with grooves on it. found one online back east auto parts. not too pricey. fix it. after checking wires this may be it. engine codes imply this. don't change the bottom module, just the top engine area one. not the one on transaxle.

Try this...
Replace the fuel cap and try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and connecting it back again.

1999 chrysler cirrus LXi will sometimes not shift up, leading to high rpms at around 40MPH and above

Something different. There are multiple shift solenoids inside the transmission. Take it to a reputable transmission specialist and have them give you an estimate.

I have a 1999 Chrysler 300M. Simultaneously, the Check Engine light came on, the speedometer stopped working, and the car doesn't shift out of 2nd gear. What's the likely problem?

these vehicles have alot of problems with the tcm( tranmission control module) internal failures of trans speed sensors. your car is currently in "limp in mode" to protect your trasmission!!!

My 99 chrysler concord speedometer quit working and it wont shift out of 2nd gear. What is wrong?

Chances are the check engine light came on also. You should have the vehicle scanned for codes, it could be that the output speed sensor has failed. This could put the transmission into limp mode (second gear) and cause the speedometer not to work. I would guess this to be an inexpensive repair, .6 hours labor plus the cost of the sensor, $16.99 at O'reillys ...I hope this helps

Want to buy a chrysler crrus lxi, good idea or not?

Don't buy it. My husband and I have a 1996 Cirrus and it is a money pit. We have only owned the thing for a short while but we have already had to fix some major problems - and now the horn won't stop honking and the shim we are using to stop it from doing so is no longer working. We are going to have to take apart the steering column and disable the horn at this point. Hope its not connecting to any of the tail lights!

Transmission,and speedometer,check engine light problem

I found the information,as I searched a little further on the Internet,it turns out to be a fairly common problem which is, the speed sensors with the outlet being the most common one to fail but the inlet can also, a relatively cheap fix.

1999 Chrysler Cirrus

You must have a check-engine light right? What codes were pulled from the computer? If you can get a list of them and post them here, I can define them for you and help you trace the problem.
