lots of causes even 100 possible (under bad engine list) bad engine, bad spark or bad fueling << in that order.
or lack of air, idle ,IAC valve stuck closed or just dirty, clean it.
bad spark," 28 year old spark parts have no chance.
clogged injectors fully or in part, x cylinders.or leaking.
bad or old bad fuel, car parked for ages? unused, is bad fuel
not told what car does good?
full engine power up hill? besides stalls how does it drive???????
check engine lamp off? driving.?
can you prevent the stall easy with a fast right foot (gas/pedal)
if yes and engine seems smooth, can be IAC bad?
or EGR sticking open makes all cars stall. at idle.
at idle EGR is not enable but if stuck open all this fails
Yea , those crossfire injection vettes can be a bear sometimes . I had dealings with them 84-85 - 86 working as a tech at a chevy dealer . Don't remember much about them , haven't heard anything about them for long time .
How's the fuel pressure ? Have you put a fuel gauge on it ? I would imagine you don't have a Tech 1 scan tool ? What's the map sensor voltage at idle ?
Usually the problem of hesitation is caused by a faulty throttle position sensor or low fuel pressure, and stalling is a dirty throttle body or faulty idle air control valve. Is the check engine light on ?
Sounds like the fuel injectors are dirty. run a bottles of STP or other fuel injector cleaner in the next two tanks of gas. Also if not done before change the fuel filter inline from the tank. Or maybe change the air filter, especially if you have been driving in an area that is very dusty. If the filter is clogged or full it will restrict the flow. These are some cheap fixes. If they done work then you can have the injectors cleaned at a shop but that is a bit more expensive. I hope this helps.
It could be a few things. The EGR, IAC, TP sensor, vacuum leak, MAF sensor, air filter, bad ground to engine. Is the engine light on? If so were any codes retreived from it? What have you done or looked at so far?
Hi! I had the same problem with my 88 2.8 Ltr. Had dirty fuel Injectors. Put in fuel Inj. cleaner in gas tank, after a couple of days, runs like a dream,no more problems. Give it a try. Take care,Leo B. [email protected]
