Hot catalytic converters indicate too much fuel in the exhaust. This can be caused by poor ignition/misfiring, a problem with fuel/air ratio, ignition timing, cam to crank timing(timing belt/chain).
Catalytic converters have the capability to break down excess hydrocarbons by process of chemical reaction. The more fuel, the more heat. The problem is that they will eventually melt and plug up. So I suggest you repair soon.
