This is very common on Matrix/Corollas and is repairable by way of replacement PCM to correct invalid parameters. the labor is low but the part is very expensive.

Expect approximately $89 or less in labor, and $648 for the new PCM

My 2005 matrix with 95000 miles check engine light just turned on. My car was shifting hard in first gear and when I put the car into reverse. I brought the car down to the local parts store put it on the scan tool for free . Turned out it had P2716 error code. I called my dealer and they said it would cost $1200. I found the repair bulletin. I unplugged my battery for 5 minutes. I tightened the battery back up and my problem went away. It have been driving a couple hundred miles since, and my problem has not returned.

This has nothing to do with the shift solenoid switch. It is a failure of the ECM computer module. If your car is less than eight years old and less then 80K miles, it is covered by warranty

If not, the part is about $550.

Have code p2716 pressure control d, will need help

Hello.

Before you start looking at replacing solenoids, here is something that you need to know:

Toyota has a technical service bulletin regarding this issue.

Changing the solenoids will NOT rectify your situation. Replacing the ECU in the car is what you need to do. The logic/programming is the problem, not the solenoids.

The good news is this: The ECU is covered, under the factory warranty! It will be replaced for free, if your car has less than 80,000 miles on it.

If you have more miles than 80K, call the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 800-331-4331; an analyst may be able to help offset your costs; they do this quite frequently.

This should get you fixed up. Thanks for visiting FixYa!

Pressure Control Solenoid P2716 toyota matrix issue

There is currently a recall going on for this problem. You can likely get your money back on the prior repairs as well. See this link http://www.toyota.com/recall/corolla-matrix.html. On the left-hand side, you can click to take you to put in your VIN and see if your vehicle is included. My 2007 vehicle IS included, and I just had the check engine light come on and have been experiencing rough shifting for about 6 months. When the light came on yesterday, it was extremely rough jerky shifting. The light went off today. Took it to Autozone and got same code P2716. Toyota has assigned me a case number, but I won't get a call back until Monday or by close of biz on Tuesday. This problem can cause your car to not start, or to shut down while driving. YIKES! The person I talked to at Toyota acted a little too nonchalant about the whole deal. Telling me to just wait for the call that I will get. She said most dealers would not have the part needed to fix this. According to what I have read. That is the reason why Toyota is not sending out the notification letters to the affected parties until mid-September. Check out all the info and good luck. I am a little bit p.o'd about this right now. - Natalie

The good news is the warranty is 8 years and 80,000 miles on this fault.

There is a Bulletin on this concern. The correction is a new PCM with updated software.

Pressure Control Solenoid D electrical fault (P2716)

There is a Bulletin on this concern, and it is a warrantable condition for 8 years or 80,000 miles so you are still covered by the factory warranty.
The problem is a logic issue in the PCM. The correction is a new PCM with updated software.
