I am assuming you have the 3.8L engine:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir and bracket.
  3. Unfasten the ECM retaining nuts, then remove the cover.
  4. Remove the serpentine belt from the pulleys by loosening the automatic belt tensioner as outlined in of this guide.
  5. Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the pump.
  6. Unfasten the pump mounting bolts, then remove the pump and reservoir.
  7. Using a suitable prybar, remove the retaining clips from the reservoir, then separate the reservoir from the pump.
  8. Remove the pump pulley using a power steering pump pulley removing tool J-25034-B or equivalent pulley pullers.

To install:
  1. Install the reservoir to the pump with a new O-ring seal and install the retaining clip. Make sure the tabs are fully engaged on the pump.
  2. Install the pulley to the power steering pump.
  3. Install the pump and retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  4. Connect the inlet and outlet hoses to the pump.
  5. Install the serpentine drive belt.
  6. Install the ECM cover and secure with the retaining nuts.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Fill and bleed the power steering system as outlined later in this information.
  9. Allow the engine to warm up, road test the vehicle and recheck the fluid level.
  10. Check the system for leaks, road test and recheck the fluid level.

How to remove water pump on a 98 oldsmobile intrigue

It is very easy! Take off belt by putting a wrench or socket on tensioner pully and rotating it. belt will come right off. You will have to drain coolant. then take out all of the bolts holding the water pump on. you will have to remove the power sterring pump to get to the very back bolt. Make sure you clean old gasket off of the motor and install new gasket with sealer. reassemble in reverse order.
On '98s at least there is an access hole in the p/s pulley that gives you access to that last bolt
I found no access hole except through the power steering which was easier to remove than the PS pully that a pully remover does not have sufficient room. Two bolts top and bottom through the access holes for the PS pump and it is out of the way of the last water pump bolt.

99 olds intrigue power steering belt very hot, I just replaced the power steering pump, it's makes a clicking sound and is getting very hot, sounds like it could be the steering colume.

remove the drive belt and check each pulley by hand for drag, or noise. Usually noises from the serpentine belt area are from the tensioner pulley, but since you installed a new PS pump I'd pay particular attention to that-also, watch the belt and pulleys for any 'wobble' too.

Power Steering Pump?

May just be a line leaking, that can be repaired or replaced. Have someone put it on hoist and look for sure at what's wrong, may be cheaper & easier than replacing pump.

On 98 intrigue water pump removal how do i clear the ps pully

Im not sure what engine you have since this information was not provided. But the Power Steering Pump pulley usually has some 'holes' on the pulley in which you can get a wrench through to loosen and remove the bolt.
