Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on. At least there is 'FREEZE-FRAME' data stored and the associated DTC.

While I was driving, my car lost power. I noticed that the check engine light is blinking. It also shakes but seems to go away as i start driving but the engine light no longer blinks but stays on

Suggest going to your nearest auto parts store and ask for a complementary read of your OBDII codes to help diagnose the problem.

Most parts supplier will scan and recommend the parts required for repair.

Even if the car is now operating well, record the error code reported, and they may reset the light. If the light reappears in the future and you get the same code you should follow throw with a repair.

These new systems do an amazing job of providing you with diagnosis info from the On Board Diagnostics (OBD) capability of the auto's computer.

Hope this helps?

I have a 06 kia sportage the check engine light came on and lost power then turned off and got power back

It is a symptom of car going into limp mode.this is usually something simple such as low oil high temp or electronic fuel delivery.the only way you will get to the bottom of this without further expense is to take it to a garage an ask for an OBD check.the garage should have onboard diagnosis equipment and be able to read the error codes that get recorded in events like this to the cars ecu.

My Peugeot 206 starts juddering and wont pick up speed, engine light comes on also indicators don't work properly. If I leave car for a while the problem goes but will do it again a few days later. ...

The first thing you need done is to have the engine control module scanned for fault codes, anytime the check engine light comes on a fault code is recorded in memory.

My engine light comes on after 10 mins and i cant get the codes of

Hello
The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

Hi, my transit connect just cut out, tdi 2003 a light came on . ie best way to describe the symble , a letter m joining in the middle..looks lke a spring. can u advise please

The light you are describing is the glow plug light (It will come one for a moment when you first start the vehicle in the cold, telling you that the glow plugs are pre-heating in order to ignite the fuel in a cold engine.

The glow plug light flashing could indicate faults with crankshaft sensor , throttle sensor, camshaft sensor or a number of other things, unfortunately, the only way you are going to find out is to get someoen to read the fault code that will have been recorder by the ECU. Your local garage will probably be able to do this cheaper than your dealer. If you call them up and say "My glowplug light was flashing and cut the engine, are you able to read the fault code from the ECU and tell me the problem?" you will probably get a "Yes" from most garages. You should be able to get them to give you a price for reading the code from the ECU, but of course the price to then fix the fault will have to wait until they know what the fault code is.

Pontiac g5 2006 light check engine keeps going on and off doing this for a year now I when to the garage like 4 time can't find nothing wrong now I went to another garage the machenic said theirs nothing...

THIS IS DUE TO AN INTERMITTENT FAULT. POSSIBLE CAUSES ARE ENDLESS. THE ONLY REAL WAY OF DIAGNOSING THIS IS THE TECHNICIAN WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE WHEN THE LAMP IS LITE OR THEY COULD HOOP UP A REMOTE RECORDER WHILE YOU DRIVE AND IT WILL RECORD THE EVENT WHEN IT HAPPENS.

What does the yellow light that looks like an engine block represent when it comes on?

hi this is the engine management system light, this is telling you that you have a fault and has been recorded in the ECU, you will either have to take it to a garage, or main dealer, to get the codes read to tell you what the fault is, or you can purchase a cheap diagnostic code reader from the net, but to be honest if you do not know what the code faults are, i would suggest you take it to a garage so they can tell you what the fault is..hope this helps

Toyota pick up 91 4wd engine service light codes

Unfortunatly ther is no generic code when your engine light is on you have to go to your local garage and have the truck scanned to get the code
and if your engine light is flashing you will damage your catalyct converter if the problem is not fixed soon

Check engine on

Get to a garage to check error codes (and then erase them). Could be a fault recorded when something was unplugged and the ignition was then turned on - not really a fault, but the ECU saw it as such at the time. Otherwise maybe something not seated sorrectly (electrical connection).

Honda VT1 Civic - orange engine light on

I would recommend u have it looked into, but maybe by someone else. It sounds like u had the engine codes read, which is done w /a hand held scan tool. It plugs in to a port under the dash, and reads codes stored on the cars computer. The engine light on indicates an emissions problem. When u bring it in, ask for the codes for your records. U can bring the honda to a parts store, and most will check the codes as a free service, and offer advice on what is wrong. Your 1st mechanic apparently erased the codes w/out fixing the problem(s), that's why the light came on again. Let me know how u make out.
