The car wont start .. already jumped the battery and it starts right up.. but when turned off everything quits and will not start again, tried jumping it off again.. same results.. drove the car home from my work which is 28 miles one way..with the lights on and the wipers due to rain.. doing the speed limit. parked in my driveway turned it off thinking it may be the battery.. same results.. wont start at all no inside lights.. door ajar alarm nothing.. thinking it may be the alternator.. please help!!

Your battery needs replacing.

Your Alternator should be fine, as you would not have been able to drive 28 miles with just battery power, the alternator was what kept power to the vehicle.

When the engine turns off, the current flow from the alternator stops, and with a dead battery, that leaves nothing to start the vehicle/power the lights, etc.

Replace your battery and you will be good to go :)

Take the car to Sears or another large auto parts store and have them check the condition of the battery and alt. They do the check for free!
Watch what they do and have them explain.
