I'm trying to change filter and transmission fuild

I'm trying to change my transmission fluid and filter in a 2002 F250 automatic tranny (7.3 Diesel). The manual shows MERCON and O'reilly is telling me it is MERCON 5? Also is it okay to add MERCON other than motorcraft to the tranny due to the remaining oil in the torque converter?

Mercon is mercon , "5" is just an updated version of the original and should't matter who makes it, as long as it states it is mercon

Testimonial: "thanks for the quick response, I was told mercon 5 was synthetic and they could not be mixed?"

If the top of the dipstick says mercon v then it use it. It does cost alot more but would eliminate the possibilty of problems from switching fluids. and the torque converter probablly has a drain plug on it. take the little rubber round plug out under the converter and turn the engine by hand until the plug appears through the whole. Not all years have this plug but its worth a look. after the converter drains it take I think 16 qts to refill so buy plenty

Finding where to put transmission fluid can be a bit of a challenge on some cars. In fact there are some transmissions that you can't even add fluid to.But that's not the case on your vehicle.

First confirm the level of fluid before filling it.==========For exact transmission fluid replacing/filling procedure.Go through the list of help links below:-----its having complete step by step procedure.Click the link :----

Want to do my own trans fuild change

Ok, just make sure you use Hyundai SP3 automatic transmission fluid when you do change your fluid (7 quarts). Dexron,Mercon, and Ford transmission fluids are not compatable with Hyundai automatics. If you dont' feel comfortable about changing your fluid, a Hyundai dealership will do it for you, Just ask for a transmission fluid-flush exchange.

How to change transmission oil on a 1993 ford f250 diesel 5 speed?

Fluid - M/T: Fluid Type Specifications
The manual transmission models M50D; Borg-Warner T-18 and ZF model S5-42 each use Motorcraft MERCON© Multi-Purpose Automatic
Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or DDX (ESP-M2C166-H) or equivalent.

There should be a drain plug near the bottom of the transmission, the plug should be removed by inserting a 3/8" ratchet in the hole on the plug. Drain the oil.

There should be a similar plug higher on the transmission case, remove this and fill from there.

How do i change the transmition fluid and wich

Consult your owners manual for the type of fuild to be used, don't recall if Honda bothered to put a drain plug on the transmission, most vehicle manufacturers do not! This will mean removal of the bottom pan from the tranny, of course prior to doing this purchase a replacment gasket and filter for the vehicle also have an adequeate quantity of fuild to prour back usually no more then 6 quarts is required, expect it to be less. Have a containor sufficient to hold that volume. Normally without a drain plug you would start loosening all the bolts holding the pan, only slightly, then select the corner that is simplest to reach and put your drian pan under it, this may require raising the vehicle off the ground and placing it on jack stands, unless you have access to a vehicle lift, loosen and/or remove the bolts in that corner till the fuilds drain into the holding pan, don't attempt this on a HOT vehicle, the fuild can be several hundred degrees and burns are possible. After you have drained the fuild, remove the pan, then remove the filter. Install a new filter and replace the gasket, some additional adhesive helps to make the new gasket stick to the pan, talk to the counter person where you buy the filter and gasket, they will recoomend something the can also tell you the quanity and type of fluid to use. If you lack the equipment to do all this then a local transmission shop will usualy have a fluid change special and they get dirty and dispose of the old fuild for you!

89 ford f250 automatic transmission shifting hard-at idle hear a ticking sound near tranny

I don't know about the ticking but I know changing the filter and fluid is the first thing to do when an auto trans has a problem plus cleaning the pan. Another thing is get a automobile sound wand and get under there and see if you can pinpoint the ticking.
