I too have a 93 Villager. Recently the check engine light came on especially on the highway cruising speed and it turned out to be caused by clugged EGR. My mechanic cleaned up the carbon build-up ( not replace EGR) from all those 170K miles and it seems to fix the problem. He charged me $150 for the labor only. Also the gas mileage seems to improved a bit as well.
Most plugs are located just to the right of the center console under the dash but on older vehicles such as this one the plug is probably located on the wiring harness in the engine compartment look for the plug coming out of the wiring harness from the fire wall forward use plenty of light to thoroughly check the harness.
